Im sorry, I have to vent:

I hate head to head leagues! LOL

Two years ago, My team (12 team league) consisted of:

QB BRADY
RB ADDAI
RB SELVIN YOUNG
WR RANDY MOSS
WR REGGIE BROWN
WR LEE EVANS
K NICK FOLK
DEF BEARS

Now bear in mind, this was the 50 TD year for Brady, and 20 TD for Moss. I HAD THEM BOTH!!!

I went undefeated with that team in the regular season, and lost in the first round of the playoffs because my opponent had these fluke games, and the Patriots were playing in snow, which affected the passing game.

I swore I would never play in a head to head league ever again. ( I have been playing in a total points league for 5 years now) but I decided to get into this head 2 head league in my office after not playing head 2 head last season.

This year, I got. (10 team league)

QB BRADY
RB RYAN GRANT
RB WESTBROOK
WR RANDY MOSS
WR VINCENT JACKSON
WR SANTONIO HOLMES
K GOSTKOWSKI
DEF COLTS

Im 2-5 and the third leading scorer overall. (Im starting to think Brady and Moss are my kryptonite)

I keep losing by 3 or 4 points every week, I seem to score more than everyone except the team I play.

I have almost 100 more points that the team that is 5-2, yet im 3 games behind him. These head 2 head leagues are pure luck. (and Im the moron who keeps playing in them.)

Sorry for the rant: Carry on.

How dare you!

just kidding, these debates usually get pretty heated, just to warn you. I was in the same boat last year, 13-0, lost in my first playoff game. Stunk. But I'll never do rotisserie in football. 90% of the fun comes with excitement of your guys v. someone elses guys, especially in the playoffs. Rotisserie is for baseball. I'm 4-3 this year, have 2 cheapy wins, 2 heartbreaking kick in the seeds losses. It all evens out. Looking at your 2-5 team, my explanation would be consistency, the most underrated thing in Head to Head. I'll take a guy who scores a constant 15 over the guy with 30 one wk, 4 the next.

See if your work league will add a payout for top scorer. Thats what we decided to do, and used the money accrued from waiver bids to fund it.

We have a 14 team league with one division. The top 5 teams make the playoffs and the 6th team is the highest scoring team of the remaining 9 teams. This way, it's not that big of a deal if you lose, but still score a lot of points. This team enters the playoffs as the 6th seed, but no one wants to play them because they have scored a lot of points but has had bad luck.

In my 14 Teamer I have the highest point total, 693 to my next closest leaguemate's 664.
I have also had the most points scored against me, 677 to the next highest 666.
I just lost a game by 2 points when I would have beaten everyone else in the league.

I am in 8th place. No playoffs, so my chances of winning this league are not good.
It gets better: That guy with the 2nd highest PT? He's in 9th.

Goes with the territory in straight W-L leagues: HTH is unfair.
That's why HTH FBL's are the devil. You HAVE to play HTH in FFL (though leagues set up like NPNG's offer an alternative to at least some degree and many money leagues have a payout to the Top Point Team). But baseball? Avoid it at all costs.

I'm currently sitting in 7th place in a 12 team H2H league. Three of my four losses have been by 4 or less points. If it was total points i would be in first. Now I remember why I stopped playing FFB for 3 years. Roto baseball will always own my heart.

i've been on both ends of the spectrum when it comes to my team's strength relative to its record......of course, the worst feeling is being the top scorer (or close to it) and failing to make the playoffs....or being stuck in a division with the top scorers, while the other division(s) are chop liver....and then you end up missing the playoffs, while a crap team qualifies.

schedules can make a BIG difference in your record.

I play roto football and it's a great league. Great format. The only downside is that we started this league many years ago on paper and we've never switched over to the internet because we've got so many random rules. So it's done on a spreadsheet and we have to wait for the commish to do the stats every week. Free agency is done one day a week over email and it's like a blind auction. But otherwise, I would never do H2H - I only enjoy roto-style.

That's pretty cool that your league has been around for so long...kudos

But I don't think I could ever deal with the manual scoring...that would tilt me so hard.

To me, H2H leagues captures what the NFL is all about. Any given Sunday... You can score 2nd most points in a league and lose, you can score second fewest and win, go undefeated and lose in the first round of the playoffs and so on... I think all of those unknowns that come along with H2H leagues makes FFL exciting for everyone each week and closely relate to the NFL season and how it's a team sport that involves H2H battles every week.

As others have mentioned, there are many ways to reward$ top scores each week, for the year, etc.

I hope everyone is in a league they like and if not, join/create one that suites your style of play.

Good Luck.

I feel like we had this thread a few weeks ago....

I had the 2nd highest point total 3 years ago and didn't make the playoffs....Sucks.

I'm tied for first in a league right now, but in first b/c of points. One of the teams I'm tied with has scored over 205 points less than me.....Ha, ha, ha....

we do a h2h league and wouldn't change it - we did add in a weekly skin. The high scored each week wins $10 as long as their high score is above the avg high score of the weeks before. If that doesn't happen the skin carries over and the next weeks skin ins $20 and so on. We had a $60 skin at one point last year - a nice little wrinkle that rewards the guy that might just have that bad luck.

i like H2H. this year i am in a playoff league, but i actually liked last year with no playoff, and a weekly reward to the highest score. this game is plenty customizable, play what you enjoy the most.

I have read about leagues that give you 1 "point" for winning and another for being in the top half scoring wise. So say you lose 199-200, but have a very high score you go 1-1 for the week. (and your opponent would go 2-0). At the end of the year the best possible score (given a 13 week regular season) would be 26-0.

if you want to get a bit bolder, perhaps in the playoffs, you could have the top scoring loser in the first round advance, or have another incentive.

You get satisfaction from the head to head action, but a well performing team doesn't totally suffer from unlucky matchups.

**I have to say that I have benefited and felt the pain of h2h like the OP mentions. So i guess given time, you will benefit and lose out.

***My biggest gripe would be waiver order. I go say, 5-0 the first 5 weeks, and I am virtually last in waiver order; so while I had a great start I get no shot at any of the decent guys who spring up each year... sims-walker, etc...

H2H can be super frustrating, but one of the best parts of fantasy football is the weekly trash talking, so gotta have it.

We do a weekly high score, so if your team dominates the reg season but gets bounced in the playoffs you'll generally do ok. Still sucks though.
