White Sox rumor floating around is that the sign Vlad to DH.
That would be nice if the money is right. The have no one else to do it now.

Also, Pods is coming back to the Sox. Looks like OF will be RF-Quentin, CF-Rios, LF-Pods...I supposed Rios and Pods could flip flop.

Potential opening day lineup:
1) Pods
2) Beckham
3) Vlad
4) Quentin
5) Konerko
6) Alexei
7) AJ
8) Rios
9) Teahen

SP) Peavy

I hope stupid rios is able to move himself up the lineup.

Overall, the lineup seems decent. 6-9 could get a little iffy if Alexei plays like last year, AJ plays like 2008, Rios keeps not achieving, and Teahen hits like Teahen. With a little good fortune, it could be just fine though.

--------------------
11 team 5x5 4-year keeper. Can't keep guys drafted in rounds 1-4. CAPS= not keeper eligible.

2b- Roberts
SS- Alexei
3b- Longoria, Beckham
OF- Braun, Cruz, J Upton
U- Votto

SP-Kershaw, J Johnson, Timmy, Hudson, Anderson, Buchholz

Just curious where ya heard that from. I was listening to espn 1000 today and they said williams was looking at Blalock, Matsui, and Thome for the DH...plus I heard they thought the price was going to be too high to sign Figgins and I can't imagine Vlad is going to come cheaper....maybe less years though. Although I think figgins would be the ideal signing for the Sox, can play outfield and third base, which I think would be the biggest plus because i just don't see teahen cutting the there the whole year. Plus you get the leadoff hitter you need.

Is someone out there other than the Angels going to pay a 32 year old Chone Figgins and his sub .100 iso to play at a corner full-time?

Yea because you not paying him to hit bombs and knock in a 100 runs. He is very versatile defensively and is a good top of the order threat which is what the Sox need. The guy just stole 42 bases and was seventh is the AL in OBP. I don't think there would be any problem signing him to a three year contract and having him split time in the outfield and third. Probably play some second base as well and spell Beckham from time to time being as it will only be his second full professional season and will likely have some struggles from time to time.

How many teams have the luxury of getting zero power from a corner though? Not many.

I'm just not sure how many teams are made up to succeed while getting 2 home runs from their 3rd basemen (and paying a hefty price to do so).

He actually would be a good fit on the Yankees imo

He could essentially backup every position on the field except catcher (Tex needs a blow/DH day - Figgins to RF, Swish to 1B).

He could also play 3rd or SS and let ARod and Jeter DH on occasion.

I didn't say he was going to be a full time 3rd baseman....my point was that the sox need a leadoff type guy and he can play all over the place and be able step in for teahen at third because i dont feel he is a full time corner player either. So basically if him and teahen are somewhat splitting time at 3rd I dont think it is unrealistic to expect 10-15 hrs and then 30sbs with a decent avg out of the 3rd base position. Those are almost David Wright numbers.....lol, thats def. a joke...

I heard on the radio this morning a report that Scott Boras is demanding top dollar for Johnny Damon, and that he's justifying it by contending that Damon was just as valuable to the Yankees as Derek Jeter: http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/yankees/dam...7ldSc0AKzcWs59L

This isn't intended to start a Damon=Jeter debate, but I have to wonder if this isn't a signal of the attitude players and agents will be taking as we move closer to the actual signing period. This, to me, implies that there will be little consideration about the current economical climate, and that we may see a dynamic similar to last season....where a small handful of players are able to get sizable deals, but the majority of FA's must take shorter, smaller deals if they want to sign for 2010 (and beyond).

Suffice it to say that I will be very interested to see how the next couple of weeks play out....

Anything that Borass tries to do, is just bad for the game....period.

I personally hope that all this greed will be overcome by the common sense of the Owners/GM's.
