He's not going to put up stats like that frequently, but his overall value is not bad because he can do a little bit of everything and he doesn't commit turnovers.

Ehhh, first game in 13 games where he scored over 14 points. Nothing to get too excited over.

Still cracks me up that the Hawks took this guy over both Deron and CP3, when they needed a PG badly no less laugh.gif

I've always been a supporter of Marvin. Yeah CP3 and Deron are better players now, but Marvin isn't a bust. He will be a star someday. He's only 23, a year younger than CP3 and two years younger than Deron. Very athletic and has good size. Makes his freethrows and goes to the line a lot (a good indication that he'll be a high scorer in the future). Developed a 3-point shot in the NBA. In a few years he'll be as respected as CP3 and Deron.

I see him as a hidden beast on the Hawks. He'll get unleashed someday...

Well we definitely have different views, I see him more as a 6th man. A guy who does a lot well, but nothing really great.

Atlanta should have drafted Deron or Paul instead of this garbage, kept Childress, and they might have a few championships by now

Not outlandish. If Marvin's in this year's draft he'd still get picked top 5. The kid is young, very atheletic and long... and can score the ball. He plays a small role on this Hawks team, but what he's capable of is a lot more. He's full of talent... and younger than some of this year's rookies.

It's all about potential.

Yeah... top 5 in the second round. It's not all about potential, you need polish and a respectable basketball IQ to succeed in the NBA. Show me 3 stars in the NBA that don't display a high basketball IQ. Hell, even as dumb as Rasheed is, he even has an underrated IQ on the court. Marvin Williams looks like he was taken off the streets and thrown onto the courts cause of his athletic ability. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he went to Europe. I'll agree that he could be a star out there, and a top 5 fantasy player.

Wow, are you serious? I think you can use dumb to describe Josh Smith, but definitely not Marvin. He's an unselfish player who knows his role, and within his role he's a very efficient player. This is the first time I've heard anybody criticize his basketball IQ.

I absolutely agree with Kobe-NMN that Marvelous Marv is a star in the making. I've always maintained that his talent isn't on showcase and has been minimized because he is on such a talented team. I can list on my one hand few SFs who attacked the rim as relentlessly as Marv. The kid has game...he just needs to be on a team with less ballhogs for that to come through.

Josh Smith has turned into a good teammate and team player, Marvin has not and has never been. This is Marvin's 5th year in the league now, it might be time to realize this is as good as it gets. Obviously this is just my opinion, but not sure how you are going to predict a guy to become a top 5 player in his 10th year in the league...

Marvin Williams ceiling is......probably something around Corey Maggete, not exactly a superstar

and, yes...he will be remembered FOREVER as the guy drafted before Paul & Deron

I think the fact that it's his 5th year in the league is an advantage rather than a disadvantage. He is still very young. He's younger than Tyler Hansbrough. Hansbrough was a lottery pick this year. Who would you rather have, Hansbrough or Marvin?

I'm not bold enough to predict that he'll be a top 5 player in 5 years, but likewise I'm not bold enough to predict CP3 or Deron will be a top 5 player in 5 years. But he will be a star once he gets his opportunity to be the #1/#2 option. All I'm saying is the kid is very talented and he was not a bust. Point guards are flashy and more noticeable, but they're also more available. A well-built and atheletic forward is harder to find. One with 3-point range, nice shooting touch and excellent freethrow % is even more rare.
