One of the more curious questions going into the season is AP's leg.  With no certainty that he will be ready for the beginning of the season where would you be comfortable drafting him?

He's obviously one of the most talented players in the NFL but coming off what essentially is a completely blown out knee will he be able to be as explosive once he returns.

Will he still be a first round pick or does he start slipping down the draft board?

Not a first round pick.

Quote

Vikings head athletic trainer Eric Sugerman cautions not to expect Adrian Peterson (ACL, MCL, meniscus surgery) to be ready to play in Week 1.
"I love Adrian," Sugarman said. "But let's make this clear: I'm still not going to be quoted as saying he's going to play in the first game. That's not fair. I don't know that." Sugarman added that the goal remains to play Week 1, "but only if he's functionally able to do it." Already running fast in a straight line, Peterson is expected to begin cutting on his knee this week. May 9 - 9:31 AM

Going to be interesting to see where guys like him and Charles and Mendenhall go.

Mendenhall has dropped significantly, he was injured so late in the season. His ADP is around #100 overall right now.

If I'm making predictions: I bet he ends up outplaying his ADP by a ton.

If I'm drafting conservatively: I stay away based on that very same ADP.

The preseason has to show me something.

Mendenhall is not even in the same conversation as AP.  AP is expected to "possibly" play in the first game, but that is probably a stretch to expect that to happen.  Mendenhall will likely begin the season on the PUP and might not even make any meaningful contributions this year.  I would love to take the chance to take AP in the second round this year as I think it's worth the risk.

As for Charles, I think Peyton Hillis and McCluster being two very capable receiving backs weighs down his value just as much as his injury does.  Reminds me of the Carolina situation last year with Deangelo, JStew, and Goodson to an extent.

Just as an interesting side note:  I've done 3 ESPN mocks over the last couple days when I've been bored and each time I've gotten AP somewhere between 96-110th overall.

I don't mean to sound like an a** when I say this, but mock drafts in May mean absolutely nothing. ADP's and opinions of players are going to change a lot in these next few months.

It's not sounding like an a**.  It's 110% true.  I always take mock drafts with a grain of salt but especially ones in May.  While I am getting him late now I don't ever expect him to fall that late when it comes to draft day.   Opinions of AP will change drastically as we get closer because then we should all have a better idea of how many games he will miss if any.

As a mendenhall owner in two leagues last year and Todd Hayley now the OC I will not be touching this guy anymore.

Percy Harvin revealed that Adrian Peterson (ACL, MCL, meniscus surgery) beat him twice in sprints up a steep hill on Wednesday.  Discuss......

I may take him in the 1st rd. pick #12.

He should definitely be gone by the end of the 1st round even if he wasn't ready for Week 1. This news just makes it even more obvious that he's so one of a kind.

try and make a top 20 RB list this yr... its pretty pathetic

"He's amazing," Harvin said of Peterson. "I told him the other day I don't think he's human. Two weeks ago he beat a couple guys in a race. When I got here yesterday, I told them guys they should be embarrassed." Harvin was the one embarrassed on Wednesday. AP remains ahead of schedule in his rehab, and we're beginning to buy that he'll be ready for Opening Day. He's a freak.

He went in round 2 and twice in round 3 in mocks i've done.  Maybe there is a chance to get him at the end of 1st round, but not if this news keeps coming out.

That's still straight-line stuff.  He needs to be able to move completely fluidly, side to side, to be able to perform all his RB duties.  I'm not going to say anything until it's a LOT closer to the season.  It's still a huge rehab/healing process.

We just saw Kenny Britt go under the knife again.  These things can and do happen all the time.

[EDIT: And need I remind everyone of the rash of hamstring injuries we saw last season, along with the recurrences we saw when those players all tried to come back too early from those injuries?]

The race was actually uphill, not just a straight shot, that's why we are all so encouraged. Add in the fact that he suffered a knee injury, it's still a lot of rehabbing, and the season isn't starting anytime soon..He wont go past the 1st round in any draft that i'm in.

Those injuries you talk about can be attributed to the lockout taking away a bunch of off-season work, like in the NBA. This year shouldn't be nearly as bad.
