Just heard about this double A pitcher recently. Outstanding stats this year. 3rd rounder in 2010. I would think this guy would make the jump to Triple A soon if not the Brewers rotation. Thought he could have taken Estrada's spot in the rotation instead of Mike Fiers. Any info on him?

Been keeping up with him and are impressed with what hes done but obviously the brewers don't think hes ready. They promoted a guy topping out at 89 who's going to eventually get bombed.

I've always loved his stat lines but scouts are universal in saying that they they he's best suited for the bullpen at the MLB level due to size and stuff.  Personally, I'll wait to see him fail before making that assessment.

Looks like he might be getting the call today. Interesting young pitcher, seems to have legit swing and miss stuff. Frame seems similar to Lincecum though, i guess this is why he keeps being underrated as a prospect. You'd think after his ridiculous season in A ball last year he would have moved up the prospect rankings significantly.. I picked him up just as a speculative

He's 23, so if he impresses, I don't see any reason why they won't keep him around.

It depends on the severity of Marcum's injury. If he has to miss an extended period of time and Thornburg does well tonight, they could keep him around, just like what they have done with Fiers.

Why is he repeatedly being compared to early Lincecum? Could he be an ace like Lince used to be?

Per Rotoworld:

Tyler Thornburg will make his major league debut against the Blue Jays on Tuesday, starting in place of the injured Shawn Marcum.
Thornburg, a third round selection in the 2010 draft, has been terrific through 13 starts at Double-A Huntsville, posing an 8-1 record with a 3.00 ERA and 1.08 WHIP over 75 innings. He also owns an impressive 71/24 K/BB ratio during that span. There is no immediate timetable on Marcum's return, so there's a chance if Thornburg pitches well that he could stick in the rotation for a few starts. Keep an eye on him in deeper mixed and NL-only leagues.

I wish Yahoo would have added him to the fricking player pool at some point! I've been waiting for this guy for a month. I thought they were going to bring him up instead of Fiers. With Marcum's injury his is definately worth a flier.

The comparison is due to their size similarities. He's 6', 190lbs.
Here's an in depth scouting breakdown on him. http://bleacherrepor...tching-prospect
Most see him as a #4 or 5 SP, but better served out of the bullpen.

It sucks pitching in a band box but I like what ive seen from him. Has control but he was going up against a high hr hitting team. I'll still pick him up. Hope for some more starts.

Looks like Thornburg is getting the start Wednesday against the Cards. Greinke has been scratched from his start Wednesday. Trade looming? If Greinke does get traded I believe Thornburg would be the frontrunner to take over his rotation spot unless the Brewers get an established pitcher in return.

Once Marcum comes back I dont think they will need a pitcher if Greinke is traded. Marcum, Gallardo, Friers, Wolf, and Estrada will most likely be the five

Where does this guy go in the long run?  SP or bullpen arm?  He looked pretty decent starting last year

People say he's bullpen bound because his velocity falls off in the 4-5th inning.  If he can sustain velocity for 100 pitches, he's an excellent starting pitcher prospect.  Otherwise, he's a high leverage reliever.
