He hasn't K'd yet though.  A game with no Ks for Beej is the equivalent of 4-4 with 2 bombs for most players.

Yeah, I just benched this clown for Hosmer too. Thought I got him as a steal when he was dropped in week TWO, but he's been making the guy who dropped him look smart so far.

Yeah I think I have to drop.  For those who play in a small bench pts league (i.e. me) his minus pts are now starting to cost us victories.

Of course he's a stash in basic leagues, but if you're forced to play just do yourself a favor and cut bait while there are still a few nice potential WW guys available.  Don't see how a two week semi- hot streak in late June will re-coup much of the damage he's done through five. of the more miserable weeks I've seen since Rob Deer circa '94

He's gonna go on a binge to lift his BA 50 pts in one week. The bad news? It'll be .180 at the end.

I did, in a shallow league though.  Someone else dumped him way early, I picked him up because it was an obvious move, but I have too many low AVG guys and I think he'll be around later if he shows signs of life.  I can see him being dropped in my deeper league soon.

I'm waiting for one of his torrid streaks to dump him. I know the numbers will be there but I can't deal with Upton anymore.

*Prepare fo BJ Upton rant*

BJ Upton is one of the absolute worst baseball players this user has ever seen. He is one freaking hell of an amazing athlete, but an absolute horse crap baseball player. Every game is filled with boneheaded gaffes or simply horrible decisions. Its amazing to me how little he learned about the game coming from TB. TB is one of the most well run organizations in the league and prides itself on player development. He also seems like a complete idiot. I mean savvy and smarts are not a staple of his game thats for sure. Add his already shaky, predictable play to the fact that he is switching leagues and this season seems lost already. Can you imagine someone who is aloof and a doufus having to learn and study new pitchers? Then add in the fact the guy just got paid and it seems to me that he is going to coast from here on out (then again he has been coasting his whole career it seems). He might get hot, like every other baseball player, but his cold spells will last seemingly forever compared to every other baseball player. Its sad because guys like him and Chris Young were staples on my teams in the past but then after actually watching him play it turned me off forever.

*Rant over*

Just bench him for now. It seems like the Braves would have done so already if Heyward was healthy. Even with Heyward out he's probably going to start getting less consistent playing time, as they simply can't accept his 0-for-4 with 2 Ks every single night.

I've been through this many times before with B.J. He usually runs into issues with his timing due to the fact that he has a pretty pronounced leg kick/toe point on his front (left) foot. When that timing is off he's a mess at the plate. When he gets that straightened out and his timing is on he starts crushing pitches left and right. You watch...the Braves will sit him down for a few days and work with him on his stance, the mechanics of his swing, and his timing, and there will be a report that they have solved the problem and for at least a couple weeks he will look really good out there. Maybe that is when all of you disgruntled owners can sell.

I keep reading the "numbers will be there at the end", and yet for some odd reason I'm not so sure that's the truth.  I don't know if its mental aspect, adjustment to a new league or a combination of the two, but this whole mess has an Adam Dunn 2011 feel to it.

Just look at the AB's...each one is literally worse than the one prior.

It's not a situation where he is "just missing".  He looks as lost and clueless at the plate as an MLB player can be right now.

He's taking more pitches than he has in the past and is striking out looking more than he has in the past. I wonder if it's someone in ATL telling him to be patient, get on base, and steal. That's not BJ. He's not an OBP guy. He needs to swing away. I'll take the Ks but give me the 20 HR and 35 SB please.

I have never owned him ... is this typical BJ or should there be long term concerns?

I'm considering buying low in my dynasty league ... Is he gonna be his usual 20/40 self with a frustrating average or are there major red flags? I never see him play enough to judge.

This is typical BJ Upton. I own him every year.
