So looks like Lawrence Frank is starting to give this guy some run...think he should rostered all of sudden?

"Villanueva scored a team-high tying 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting in 21 minutes Wednesday night in Detroit's win over Phoenix.

Recommendation: Pistons head coach Lawrence Frank is getting a motivated Villanueva, after the coach liberated him from DNP hell (nine DNPs in first 12 games). Since Frank promoted Charlie V. to the backup power forward job, Villanueva has averaged 15.3 points on 62.1 percent (18-of-29) shooting from the field with nine 3-pointers made.

This guy was fantasy relevant 3 years ago. And hasnt been given the chance since.

He can put up points, shoot 3s, rebs, and blocks.

If Lawrence Frank is really giving him the minutes, in which the minutes werent given to him last year, this guy can produce.

Definitely going to be on my watch list.

Call me crazy but I think this guy will actually play. One more strong showing and Frank might have to play him crunch time in 4th quarter, along with Monroe. Maxiell or Drummond are not shot-makers, but this guy is. If anything, Drummond is a liability in the 4th, due to his horrible FT and him being a rookie and all (prone to make mistakes in crunch time). I get where Frank is coming from. If I was the coach too (I coach sometimes for Sunday leagues), I'd use Drummond as a spark off the bench, start Maxiell, and play Villanueva in the 4th (a la super sub Terry in his Dallas days) due to the fact that he just makes buckets, if given playing time. And he's done it his whole career too, just wasn't given the minutes past few years.

I'm haven't watched a ton of Pistons games this month so maybe somebody can help me out. How does this team have four SFs all playing significant minutes (Prince, Villanueva, Daye, Singler)?

Here is their MPG over the past ten days (four games):

Prince: 27.5
Villanueva: 25.5
Singler: 26.5
Daye: 24.3

Charlie and Daye have PF eligibility and Singler is eligible at SG, but to me their natural position is the 3. Are they just playing these guys out of position regularly.

I thought that it may have something to do with Prince's ankle, but he's back to full minutes now. How are they finding the playing time over the past couple weeks to keep all of these guys relevant.

I'm just wondering how sustainable Charlie's value is. He's been great lately but will one of these youngsters eventually expel him from the rotation?

It's my understanding that Villanueva just stands on the perimeter on offense, waiting for his shot. And how does Daye play against PFs? He must get thrashed.

So what happened to Charlie tonight? He shot well for 9 points on 3 3PM in eleven first half minutes, with a rebound, assist, steal, and block, but he didn't get off the bench in the second half. Was there an injury issue?

Nope just the dumb Pistons with unpredictable absurd rotations.

Ahhh. I see. That makes me feel a little better. It didn't make any sense that they'd bench him for an entire half after that hot start.

Having watched the Pistons' recent games, I'll say that Charlie V has earned consistent minutes and is sometimes the 1st man off the bench, or second, to Will Bynum, thanks to  his production. For those asking about the playing time/rotations, they do an almost 5-man substitution late in the 1st Q (which if coach deems is too hot to bench, sometimes keeps them for longer minutes intact, and at times even playing 4th Q crunch time in close games, due to starters playing poorly). The lineup is Drummond, Charlie V at PF, Daye at SF, Singler (I think this is because, he is technically a bench player, when Stuckey comes back), and Will Bynum. They've been surprisingly effective, especially as long-range threats, with garbage man Drummomd eating people up inside. Charlie V is not too bad defensively either, he really can steal and block, and won't just let people drive by him. He is the epitomy of a stretch four, but along with Daye, can really give defenses problems with their floor spacing. I like this lineup more than the traditional one employed by the  starters (more focus on the post), but that's all preference. Frank has the luxury of riding the hot hand in this case, which translated to his recent surge of wins lately. All that said, I'd add Charlie V if you want a Byron Mullens type player, with low upside.

Damn.. he can really score in limited minutes. 3 years ago he averaged 16 ppg in only 26 mpg. Pretty impressive to me.
