why do i believe in this guy?i know it makes no sense to believe in a rockies pitcher with no control. but there's something about his ability that draws me in. im still stuck chasing what he did in the first half of 2011. he's just 24. they say he was outta shape last year, had some nagging injuries, nothing to do with his arm, as far as i can see.

Chacin isn't particularly pitch efficient. There is word that the Rockies intend to ditch the much ridiculed 75 pitch limit this year. So that would seem to be better for Chacin who probably would have had problems pitching beyond 4.2 IP in many games due to his chronic control problems.
I'd need to see him improve on his BB% rate before I'd consider him more than FA/WW fodder. His K rate isn't really impressing anybody either. From 9.04 couple years ago to just 5.87 last year. wtf is up with that?

Yeah, not even based on the fact that he's a Rockies pitcher, but the fact that he's Jhoulys Chacin for c's sake.... for that alone, he is more or less completely off my radar unless he gives me ANY reason to believe otherwise. Ubaldo Jiminez is stil just what, 28? Rockies pitchers flame out so fast, it's sad. And Chacin was never much of a prospect in my eyes.
The only thing worse than being Jhoulys Chacin these days is being Gustavo Chacin, if he's still out there.
Big pass. If anyone even bids $1-$2, it's money wasted in the draft in my opinion. Let him go to waivers and see if he can somehow crack the rotation and start the year on a high note.

I'm sorry... but when there's "high risk/reward" types like Ricky Romero who are going to be $1-$4 picks, then I see no reason at all to be bothering with the likes of Jhoulys Chacin to begin the year. He's like the NL Brian Matusz- but Matusz isn't as far removed from his so called amazing potential, and Chacin never had that prospect status even attached to him. Yet, people keep giving them chances.

It's a minimal chance. He's a basic lock for an ERA upwards of 4 in Coors, and has walk problems so his Whip will never be low. He most likely ends up being around 4.5/1.5.

was it last year he was really good? I remember I had him for a few months within the past two years and he was awesome. I rode the same wave with de la rosa... safe to say i won't be touching a rockies pitcher with so many others out there.

The only Rockie pitcher even worth a look right now. Honestly I think he's going to have a really slow start. But I wouldn't be surprised if he became a nice mid season pick up.

Did anyone watch him pitch today? Brewers have a pretty good lineup thats a pretty nice line to have against that team.. he might be worth a look had a pretty good 2011 and really good 2010

I realize he's not of much use in anything shallower than a 12-team mixed, but there's good value in deeper leagues. He had two great years in 2010 and 2011 before struggling through injuries last year and he's looking good so far.
For his career he's been at least okay at home (4.18 ERA, 1.41 WHIP) and stellar on the road (2.99 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) while registering 7.6 K's per 9. He's an ideal plug-and-play option for leagues with daily moves and not a bad guy for those who can't change their line-up.
My season prediction:
12-12, 3.80 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 190 IP, 160 K's
