We all know about the fantasy mirage that is Kipnis. He has a first half that makes owners scramble to get him and he shows he is a 30/30 threat. But his second half made people wonder if he could even post a 10/10 year. In the end, he put together a decent stat line with a less than stellar average.

This begs the question: Which Kipnis will show up this year? I doubt his streaky bat can find a middle ground between the 2 extremes. So will we see that first half Kipnis or the second half Kipnis?

Great question....so did he just wear down or did the league figure him out?  No idea but after I looked at his numbers for the second half, I would be very concerned.

He was figured out.  His XBH rate plummeted while his K rate increased fairly drastically.

Also I remember him putting out very nice production in near the end of the season in September.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I give Kipnis somewhat of a pass for the second half collapse.  Not only was it this guy's first full season in the bigs, but this team as a whole collectively bleeped the bed post ASB.  I'd compare his situation alot to what David Wright did with the Mets post ASB last year.   While he won't be as good as his first half totals suggest, I'd also argue that he'll be nowhere near as bad as the second half.  While he's a set it and forget it play strictly for roto purposes, if you plan on taking this guy anywhere in the 6th - 10th tier of 2B for H2H, then you really do need to almost handcuff him with a somewhat reliable backup middle infielder/utility guy just in case he really is closer to the latter than the former.

If he is getting drafted outside of top 6 or 7 2b then I am buying as well. He is still a young player, and I believe in the second half he might have a neck injury that lingered and affcected his play a little bit.

Kipnis has good upside to him.  Power and speed.  The 7th 2B off the board sounds about right.

Where's Kipnis going? Yahoo's pumping him as the 4th 2b off the board. So any chance of getting him at 6-10 2B just evaporated.

Found this on twitter. Not sure the validity.

Defensive changes all over the field for the #Indians in just the 3rd inning at Goodyear Ballpark. Kipnis probably fine.

Just so everyone is clear about Kipnis' second half - it was really just a terrible August that brought down his 2nd half stats. He was serviceable in July and good again in September. If he can rediscover his power (and he probably will) he'll provide very good returns, I'm sure.

#Indians Kipnis is fine. He was just the first one out of the game in the 2nd inning. No injury.

It's a reputable account, so I would exhale.

Edit: 2Balls got to it before me. :)
"I think that life would suddenly seem wonderful to us if we were threatened to die. Just think of how many projects, travels, love affairs, studies, it--our life--hides from us, made invisible by our laziness which, certain of a future, delays them incessantly.

'But let all this threaten to become impossible forever, how beautiful it would become again! Ah! If only the cataclysm doesn't happen this time, we won't miss visiting the new galleries of the Louvre, throwing ourselves at the feet of Miss X, making a trip to India.

'The cataclysm doesn't happen, we don't do any of it, because we find ourselves back in the heart of normal life, where negligence deadens desire. And yet we shouldn't have needed the cataclysm to love life today. It would have been enough to think that we are humans, and that death may come this evening."

Kipnis is slotted in the 3 whole in a sneaky good lineup

Cleveland Projected Lineup

1. Bourn
2. Asdrubal
3. Kipnis
4. Swisher
5. Santana

How do you not love that out of your 2b.  Great spot for RBI and Runs, plus 30 SB potential remains.

I'm buying.

The second half teams were bringing up minor league lefties for spot starts against the Indians because they had so many left handed bats in the lineup.  Kipnis struggled mightily against those lefties.  I think that is still a concern, but the Indians added some right handed bats to give their lineup some balance.

But seriously,  how many second baseman in the league are 3 whole hitters?  Cano is the only other one I can think of off the top of my head.

Awesome start to the season...
And who are you, the proud lord said,
that I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat,
that's all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red,
a lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord,
as long and sharp as yours.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke,
that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall,
with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall,
and not a soul to hear.
