I was killed here for calling him a bottom 5% hitter in the big leagues. My initial comment of "he is the worst hitter I've ever seen," which I thought was harsh, is probably accurate.

Bottom 5% is tough considering he batted .160 until June last year (with about 160ABs). He still managed to finish with 30 HRs and 90rbis. With that said, there is a point where you can't keep throwing him out their in the cleanup spot to strikeout 4 times a game.

Again, he was recovering from Valley Fever last year and it was noted, by him even, that it was a hinderance in him coming back. Right now he isnt recovering from Valley Fever and looks more lost at the plate than anyone I can recall in recent memory.

Good point.

Going into today's game - so counting thru May 15th this season:
.164/.254/.279 (.532 OPS), 4 HR, 14 R, 9 RBI.  41 SO in 122 AB.  .205 BABIP.

If you take his 2012 thru May 15:
.164/.221/.303 (.525 OPS), 5 HR, 11 R, 13 RBI.  37 SO in 122 AB.  .188 BABIP.

So, yeah, this is awful... but it's almost a to the letter repeat of his start of last season.

Yes, last year he had Valley Fever, and we all thought his struggles were just about that - and when he hit better from June on, that certainly fit the narrative we all constructed.  But it's not out of the question to believe he can heat up again this season, just like he did last season.

Digging further, it looked like Ike bottomed out last season in early June.  From opening day to June 5th last season:
.160/.226/.274 (.501 OPS), 5 HR, 14 R, 21 RBI.  56 SO in 175 AB.  .202 BABIP.

From June 6 onward last season:
.262/.348/.558 (.906 OPS), 27 HR, 52 R, 69 RBI.  85 SO in 344 AB.  .268 BABIP.

Maybe Valley Fever isn't a complete narrative for Ike's 2012 start.  Maybe it points to a guy who can get horribly off track, but then it can click again with great results.  It's not like he'd be the only power hitter prone to significant hot and cold streaks if that's the case.

Stranger things have happened.

I feel duped thus far.  I know that most people who bought Ike probably share my sentiment.  He will ride the pine until I start seeing some signs of life.  I won't drop him for at least another month because of what he did in 2012.  Hopefully he can turn it around.

Hi everyone, I am Tchaikovsky 08, and I have an Ike Davis problem.  But I think I had a breakthrough.  At 8:01 Pacific Standard Time, Friday, May 17, 2013, I dropped Isaac Benjamin Davis from my team.  It already feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

In all seriousness, he looks so bad at the plate right now that I think the Mets may be forced to send him down to work on his swing.  He's completely off balance, swings wildly at balls on the outer half of the plate, and can't lay off big breaking balls.  as dzemens said, he's as lost as anyone I've seen in quite some time.  This isn't Valley Fever: this is a large amount of sucktitude.

To show how bad he has been so far this season:

when falling behind in the count his avg is .093 (11 for 118) with a 56,3 K%.

After Hamilton this guy has to be the biggest fantasy letdown so far not involving an injured player.

Where did everyone end up wasting a draft pick on Ick Davis.

6th Round here(64th pick overall) and at least half the league was upset they missed out on him when I pulled the trigger. Seemed like a perfect candidate for the same power numbers as last season with an improved average. Saw some spring training blasts that were nothing short of jaw dropping.

I know May is still early but what a disappointment. Can't think even the Mets tolerate this level of suck much longer.  Just not sure they have much of an option for a replacement though.

Round 7. I cut him two weeks ago for LaRoche.

Someone else got him round 6 in my other league. He's still hanging on to him.

Did he actually get a hit today? Wow, 1-4, didn't know he was capable of doing that.

Probably depends on what you define as a "tear."  I'd imagine those holding are waiting for the kind of numbers he put up after June 5 (per my prior post).  So, a power tear, but doubt anybody is hoping for much more than a .250ish BA from here on out.  Wishing, maybe; but not hoping.

ESPN New York reports that the Mets have "intensified" discussions about potentially demoting Ike Davis.

Looks like he's starting to run out of time. He better start hitting this weekend or he'll be in the minors very soon.

They should demote him...he's a mess.  Who keeps a guy who is 1 for 26 over the last 7 games and showing NO signs of improving?

It's starting to get to the point where even the money I spent on him can't justify letting him sit on my bench. He just looks completely broken beyond repair.
