How about Victor Martinez at Catcher.  I know different player, but related and am curious without starting a Victor Martinez trend.

I would say yes, he was still catching in 2011 when he last played...his eligibility should roll over from then I would think

I know for my league if a player doesnt play in a season (injured whole year, suspended, come out of retirement, Japan) then the eligiblity he would of had the previous year would apply.  I was a V Mart stash owner and I thought my first step to a title was him not coming back last year, there was some discussion about how he was gonna try to play in late September, which would of been at DH and he would of then been DH only, so having a full time DH be your starting Catcher is HUGE versus just as a DH.

Ive got him as my no.2 ranked C in 2012 behind only Posey.

He missed a full season though, I'd like to see him healthy in the spring before ranking him that high

I also think he will be a top 3 catcher this year, even after the injury. We know he will be fresh by not catching at all next year and DH every day. If he can be picked where Posey was picked last year then that is great value.

Is your other 3rd Mauer?

Mauer is in my top three too. I think he has a similar avg to last year while improving his rbis and homers.I think Victor could have a similar season to Mauer last year but his home run total will 15+ and his rbis will also be higher. The only thing is that VMart wont have any steals like Mauer did.

I will never draft Francisco Liriano ever again.

ESPN i would assume he would be a DH too then. That is very disappointing.

Im just curious because I have never been in leagues that are predicated on what CBS or Yahoo or ESPN claim as elibility are these just casual leagues?  Not sure why a league wouldnt establish their own bylaws and settings as opposed to how the wind blows at some of these sites.

I know at least yahoo doesn't allow you to override their positional eligibility. has nothing to do with casual leagues or not.

Kendrys Morales' eligibility last year should be a good indicator. on yahoo he was 1B/OF. in CBS iirc he was DH only. yahoo probably retains player eligibility from the prior year.

I guess I would just think a league (maybe a money league for sure) might go with a site that allows you to create your own settings like an onroto.com or something like that.

He could sleep walk through the season and still get 100 RBI's.  Hitting behind Miggy and Prince is going to be RBI's galore.

honestly, that is just a nerd preference, and I am a nerd so that is not an insult. most people don't care about this. the money has no bearing on it. I used to play in a yearly league with a low 5 figure prize pool with mostly the same ppl every year, and that was on yahoo. most people just want the gamble and a reason to follow baseball. in my experience, when you get too complicated with customizing rules, most people lose interest. as long as it's a level playing field I really don't care of V-Mart is a C or DH.

Probably right, its just in baseball Ive always been in leagues where we had a Constitution and by-laws then found a stat service which I think is the best way because everyone has access to the rules.  I know what you are saying though, weve got owners who every year try to pick up someone in June at some position because the "website" lists them under that position, even though Ive had the same conversation with the same owner for 5 years that what the "website" lists especially after May 1 is irrelevant because after May 1 in our league the previous years position elig of 20 games is no longer applicable.
