Starting AAA rehab assignment in Norfolk...a lot closer than we all thought.

i'd be willing to bet he gets injured before he even gets out of rehab.

Well as bad as 2B is I'm not willing to risk someone else getting lucky with above-average production out of 2B.

So stashed.

Buck says 2-5 days in AAA should be enough for Brian Roberts. We're talking two weeks stashers....

Speculation that he will only need 3 games and might play this weekend...

What are the odds that Roberts makes it thru 3 rehab games healthy ... I'm optimistic and think he's got a 80% shot at playing for the O's this weekend

He's certainly a stash with a contingency plan in place. I have Gyorko, for example.

His risk is injury related but when healthy, why can't he give you Utley level production with less homers and more steals?

People stashed him in 2011 and 2012 too. He played a little and was terrible. He hasn't been healthy since 2009...that's a long time.

The concern for Roberts even if he can remain healthy, something he hasn't been able to do in 4 years, is what kind of value can he give now on the base paths.  With Mclouth seemingly filling the leadoff role and Machado having an outstanding season in the 2 hole, it would appear that Roberts will be hitting 8/9th in the lineup.  Also, a lot of his value came from stealing bases, but you have to think that the days of him running crazy on the base paths are over.  If he gives you a functional average (let's say .285), he won't be scoring tons of runs like he did in his prime.  Couple that with single digit SBs and he'd have to hit for some pop to make it worth it in standard size leagues.  In deep leagues or AL only leagues, managers probably want to at least take note, but in a standard 10-12 teamer, it may be best to wait and see what he can give......if anything.

Just hit a HR in his 2nd game back. Probably could do a lot worse at 2B if you're looking for help there, or a switch.

As a Rendon owner, I'm tempted to switch them up. Rendon hasn't been doing squat for owners in quite some time now. Not sure what value he'll really have in 2013.

And as someone else pointed out, Roberts won't bat leadoff unless there are multiple injuries.  McLouth is pretty much locked in the lead off spot against righties at this point. Markakis has also seen a good amount of at-bats in the lead-off spot as well, that's not to say Roberts couldn't force him out of that spot based on the speed aspect...but Roberts would have to stay healthy for an extended period of time.

Guess who is leading off tonight?
