Hey all!,
I'm excited another fantasy baseball season is nearing day by day. I was thinking about one player specifically, Mike Trout and where he shouled be drafted. I got lucky and scooped him up in some leagues I was in, was a great producer across the board and should be productive again especially with Hamilton in the lineup.
So say you have a top 1-5 pick in roud 1, is Trout a must pick?
I'm trying to think who else I'd grab if I had a 1-5 1st rounder. Some noteables, Verlander, Felix, Strausburg, Bautista, Pujols, Kemp, Cabrera, and few others I probably missed make the list. I don't think Trout hits the 2nd round in any draft but I'm having a hard time figuering out who would be must drafts before Trout.
What do you guys think?

Id take him at 3-4 at worst. Braun and Miggy are much clearer picks imo. I am not saying however trout cannot put up better stats then them. He certainly can and has a high chance of doing so. Though the first two picks arent meant for highest ceiling player but rather safiest elite option that produces at the utmost level. Thats why Pujols was always the first pick even with the huge threat of Hanley massively out producing him(which he didn't).
I like trout at 3 though.

For me...
1. Braun and Miggy are definetly 1-2.
2. I like Cano and might go him if I had the No.3 pick in the right setting.
Then 4 - Trout is a strong consideration, maybe you think about Matt Kemp thinking he might return to 2011 form and Trout might regress, I could see one thinking that way and honestly wouldnt take issue with it. But after that? Im not seeing much.
So no later than no.5 for me.

In this draft I ended up 5th and got Braun, so that worked out well. The owner with the first pick took Trout. If I had the first pick I still would have gone with Cabrera or Braun personally, after those two guys it gets much tougher. I'd sure like to be able to pick up Trout in FAs again this year like I did last season haha.

Gotta ask, who else was taken?

Have #1 pick, considering Trout or Braun. Probably leaning towards Trout

10 team draft.
1. Cano - he explained it by position scarcity
2. Trout
3. Cabrera
4. Kemp
5. Verlander - I still don't understand this, but I think the guy is just a Tiger fan
6.Cargo- To be honest I hadn't quite concentrated yet on the draft and didn't realize Braun had fallen that far. I did want an OF as the league starts 5. The 1st round usually there are no surprises.
7. Braun
So it does happen but it takes a weird set of circumstances.

I'll ask you to read the Trout posts in the Fantasy Baseball Talk Forum. I've posted reams of data there why Trout has less than a 15% chance statistically to even put up top-15 numbers this year. I'm not saying it will change your mind, I'm just suggesting you read it so you can get a historical perspective on his chances not of even repeating or regressing a bit, but of him actually not being worth a first round pick. FYI.
