Most leagues have a few DL slots and sometimes you have make good use out of them.  Last year I signed Victor Martinez for super cheap and stashed him in my DL all year in my keeper league and this year I am reaping the benefits of it (hopefully).  Who are some names projected to start the year on the DL that we could all potentially stash and hopefully get some value out of them at some point?  First names that comes to mind are:


Corey Luebke - due back in late May/June
Andrew Cashner- due back in May
Corey Hart - out until late April
Colby Lewis - out until at least June
Brandon Beachy - out until June/July
Michael Pineda - out until at least June

Can anyone else think of anyone who may be worth a cheap DL stash that could impact leagues at some point during the season?

If Brian McCann can't make Opening Day, he could wind up on the DL.

Pineda really intrigues me though this year. Could be worth the risk.

Probably too much uncertainty to really stash him, seeing that he's injured and may be suspended.  But he is a guy that may make an impact down the road.

I liked Danny Duffy and Neftali Feliz last year.  I am not sure when they are coming back, but they could be valuable long term.

I think a lot depends obviously on settings and whether its a re-draft or Keeper and how deep of league it is.  A lot of the names mentioned could potentially be good values, some others:

Brian Wilson - probably out til mid-season is a free agent at this point, but could be a cheap closer stash.
Daneil Hudson - AZ
Joakim Soria - TEX - out til midseason, could get closers gig if Nathan falters and timing is right.

Daniel Hudson SP, Diamondbacks. Everyone forgets that in 2009 he was 16-12 with a 3.49 era, 1.20 whip, and 169 strikeouts. He can be a solid pitcher and upped his k/9 rate last year before being hurt. Im going to stash him in my leagues and hope to get some rewards when he comes back in May or June.(returning from TJ)
Felipe Paulino SP, Royals. He had quite a few solid starting with  0 er's. in 37.2 innings he had 39 strikeouts, and 1.56 era, Sure he wouldn't be able to do that all season but i still see him as a mid 3.45/3.50 era guy with more strikeouts than innings. Could be a sleeper option that you may want to invest on your dl.(returning from TJ)
Tim Stauffer SP, Padres injury plagued most of career but has always had a good outlook on talent. Watch him close as he recovers.

And another pitcher to watch on a comeback is Jon Garland. The Mariners signed him a few days back and he could be a sneaky pitcher to hold onto.

if it is a deeper league danny duffy is worth a try. daniel hudson and then beachy being the best option.

As above the first one I thought of was Paulino. Started the season with him last year (all redraft leagues) and this year I am going to draft him again in keeper leagues. Was really high on him.

Kind of disappointed he made this list as I was hoping most people had forgot about him

Reimold currently has no restrictions according to the medical report that came out a couple days ago.  He should be ready to go for opening day.  I think as of right now, he should get the lion's share of at-bats at DH.  But Showalter will make sure to rotate players like Betemit into that role as well...but if Reimold hits, he should hold the job.

As for guys I would like to stash, Danny Duffy is one of the top names on my list.  But I'm not sure how much value he will have for this year, since it takes some time for the control to come back after Tommy John.

Danny Duffy is good one.  I am going to try and sign him for league minimum (300k) in my salary keeper.  Could make a nice long term stash and now is the perfect time to grab him.

FWIW, if you're a TJ returning pitcher - I have a LOT more optimism than if you had a labrum repair.   A full reconstruction is the death knell for most pitchers' careers, and a "minor" labrum repair still has a high attrition rate.

Now, if you don't address the mechanics to led to TJ, long-term, I do think there's a legit fear that shoulder trouble will come later - but at least with TJ, you usually buy 3-4 good seasons of peak skills after the initial 18-month recovery period (it's important to note that most pitchers are back within 10-12 months of TJ - but often admit afterwards they don't have peak command until 18 months - velo's back right away, but command comes last - and age of surgery matters - TJ at age 35 probably not the same as TJ age 28 or at age 18).

He'll be part of a platoon with McLouth in LF and also play some DH. Buck said earlier in the year that he wanted to rotate players through his DH spot. If he hits like the first month of last year though, I don't see how he doesn't push McLouth to the bench more often.

Corey Hart is ranked way way down the seeding list at Yahoo anyway.  #314 to be exact.  He could be a very cheap late round pick-up stash who should be out just over a month maybe?  Not half a season anyway.  Has that HR pop and is eligible at OF still as well as 1B.

That is crazy low. He should give you about Allen Craig level production when he's playing, and he's only due to miss a month.

He isn't injured but Grandal has that 50 game suspension to serve at the start of the year. I drafted him in a deep keeper (keep 13) primarily for next year as Martinez is my catcher this year.

I don't know how ESPN or Yahoo handles suspensions.

if you dont get a chance at any of this big names.....beachy, hart, hudson, pineada.......danny duffy is worth a shot. if you got an empty dl spot. he will probably get undrafted in most leagues.
