What is his ADP at? How much would his mock price be at for auction drafts?
I actually think because so many people will (again) be expecting a dramatic drop-off in production, he'll be pretty affordable. I don't know if he's a guy you would want to look at as your #1 or even #2 OF, but as a 3rd Of or just someone you can ride if they're hot, if you can afford that or fit it into your team, I think he's worth a look...
I expect him to slip quite a bit because of the naysayers, and I expect his price to be pretty low in auction drafts. I'd gamble on him... hell, if I gambled on Alfonso Soriano last year, Beltran seems like a safe play.....

Its all about price and where you draft him. In general most people stay away because of the injury risk and with him its pretty much not if he gets hurt but when and for how long will he be out.
There is likely to be some regression, he had about 550 AB, he has had that in some seasons yet 2012 was his first 30HR year since 2007 and his first double digit steals since 2009, so to think even if he did give you 500 at bats that you would get 30-10 I think is somewhat of a stretch.

I was really confused when they traded Wheeler for him... especially since he wasn't likely to resign.

I think when they originally got him, they were thinking resigning him. I remember he flew down to AZ with a bunch of the Giants to the All Star game that year, I think maybe the Mets were in SF pre-break and he jumped on their charter. Then injuries happened, they didnt win and I think he became the scapegoat even though AZ went on an amazing run that even if he were there and playing well, not sure they would of won the division that year. Reality was they were 2-3 bats away, not one.

Pretty small window (few years)...between contracts and trades, maybe not in the GM's worst 5.

The goal of every draft is to get a player that can out perform his ADP. Beltran in the 13th round seems like a guy who could do just that. Till he gets banged up I guess.

Someone dropped Beltran in my main league. I know he's not off to a great start but that's a great example of how people jump the gun early in the season. I'm not in love with the guy but the waiver wire stays pretty bare.
