I think Mallett is as solid a #2 as there is out there.  Mallett has great mechanics and potential.

I also doubt Belichick will disrupt Brady's successful flow by designing special packages for Tebow.

I may be off base but...
  • Is it possible that the Patriots know going in that this is a situation that will benefit Tebow far more than the Patriots?
  • Is it possible the Patriots are just being charitable?  That they know what many of us have been saying all along..  an opportunity like this is the best thing for Tebow at this stage. And the Patriots realize that they have very little to lose by giving it to him?
  • Is it possible that the Patriots feel that Tebow's intangibles would be a great addition to the team, even if he never plays an important down?
Perhaps I am undervaluing roster spots.  Perhaps there is no way the Patriots would get Tebow if they didn't think they could use him.

I just don't see how Tebow fits into the Patriots game plan.

I am a fan of Tebow, and I am happy to see him get this opportunity.   At the risk of sounding naive, I am asking what posters think of the possibility that Kraft/McDaniels/Belichick picked up Tebow simply because they like the guy.

The Patriots are the last team I can see filling a roster spot for a guy they just want to be nice to.  If he makes the team, I'd have to imagine they plan on using him at some point even if not this season.

I don't think it's entirely unreasonable to believe that just a tiny bit of the motivation behind the signing might be a favor to McDaniels so that he can save a little face, being as that he's responsible for bringing Teebs into the NFL.

Last I checked, Belichick isn't one to sign players that will sell jerseys, bring in unnecessary media, to make McDaniels feel better or my favorite.... to be "nice" to Tebow.

McDaniels talked him into it. If they don't think he'll help them win in camp they'll cut him.

Yes folks, your New York Jets.....

Quote

The Jets, who acquired Tebow from the Broncos in 2012, still owe Denver $1,531,875 as part of Tebow’s salary advance. After unsuccessfully shopping his contract during the offseason, the Jets will be stuck paying that amount over the coming season.
The Patriots signed Tebow to a two-year contract with no guaranteed money. Assuming he makes the Patriots’ 53-man roster, Tebow is scheduled to earn $630,000 in 2013, along with $525 in workout bonuses. His 2014 base salary is $730,000, plus $25,000 in workout bonuses.
All together, the Patriots are scheduled to pay Tebow $1,385,525 in base salary over the next two seasons. The Jets will be paying $1,531,875 … over the course of one season … for a player not on their roster.
