In 2012 things really came together for Gio (BB/9, H/9, HR/9 & WHIP came down while K/9 came up a bit).

Does he carry that forward into '13 or are we setting up ourselves for a let down? Those 21 wins from last season really seem to be driving the price up in the ADP's I've seen so far.

I'd be curious to hear some opinions on this guy for 2013.

I think he'll give you most of what you got last year except for WHIP which will be 1.20+ imo. He's a guy who seems to be getting a little bit overdrafted but still definitely a very good pitcher.

His WHIP will definitely regress, and I think its a good idea to expect near 1.25
His ERA should remain solid in the 3.2-3.4 range. He's average 200 IP over the past 3 seasons and his ~9 K9 rate is for real, so 200 K's is very likely again.
I wouldnt project any pitcher for 20+ Wins though.

Wins is the category I hate most. The Washington bullpen is set up nicely though with Clippard, Storen, & Soriano. At least there is some comfort when he or any other Nats starter comes out of the game. That trio is a pretty sick combo to protect a lead.

Guys, ignore the wins. How can he possibly repeat 21 wins? He got so much run support last year.

Just look at his stats (besides the wins) and ask yourself if you want that. You can basically attribute his "improvement" to his move to the National League.

I'll be all over him. He's a groundball pitcher that gets strikeouts. He pitches for a good team and in the NL. His control has gotten better and better as time has gone on. Even if his whip regresses to the 1.20 area, he should be staring at 200k's and a 3.00 era (in those ranges) and the possibility of 15+ wins. Yes please.

I'm really skeptical about him, the HGH talks have diminished, but is he good to go? I have an offer on the table for me that I absolutley win should he miss no time this year, but the last thing I want is for me to acquire him only to have him slapped with a suspension. Anyone heard anything?

He has already passed a piss and blood test taken two days after he was linked to the Miami anti-aging clinic.

I would say with 100% confidence that there is not a suspension coming.

Also:

Mike Fish and T.J. Quinn of ESPN.com report that Gio Gonzalez did not receive banned substances from Anthony Bosch or the Biogenesis clinic.

I think it's safe to believe he won't get suspended.

Struck out 9 over six innings in today's minor league start...I think he's ready to roll this season.

This guy is gonna contend for the CY Young this year IMO. He has gotten better each year and now he looks like he could end up being the best SP on that Nats staff (yes, better than that Once in a Generation Prospect). He reminds me a lot of Clayton Kershaw. When both of them first came up, both had the strikeout stuff but were way too erratic, then they both have started to shave down the walks. But once that happened, they still threw way too many pitches and continuously only made 5-6 innings before getting yanked, and then they both finally started to learn how to pitch, get contact when they needed it and KO's in the big time moments. I love them both, and this year will be Gio's coming out party. Book it.

I take it you feel Gio didn't come out last year when he finished 3rd in the Cy Young voting (behind only Dickey & Kershaw).

Yes, but I meant more along the lines of people regarding him as a true ace. Seems like no one really talks about him being a legitimate ace. Apologies for the confusion lol.

I just don't agree with the people saying his walk rate is going to regress to what it was prior to last year.

Fangraphs had a article outlining a fundamental change in his pitch selection in which he throws significantly more fastballs. This approach not only allows him to reduce his walk rate but also makes his curve ball more effective as he can throw in it the approriate counts and situations.

I am buying this year and think he can definetly be the ace of a fantasy staff.
