Howie Kendrick 2013 Outlook

Set to bat 6th in that strong Angels lineup, following Pujols, Hamilton, and Trumbo. He should be in a position to rack up the counting stats. He has always had a relatively low BB% and high K%, but several concerning factors in his advanced stats, including an O-Swing% of: 31.1%, 31.2%, 32.8%, and 35.6% over the past 4 seasons, so his discipline is steadily declining. Also, he had a career low (by a large margin) in FB% last year, leading to just 8 HR last year. He is just 29, so is he on the career decline or do some of these numbers balance out for a few strong seasons?
My projection: .278/13HR/77RBI/71R/13SB
Currently listed as the 15th best 2B according to FantasyPros. How does everyone feel about him this year?

i like waiting on a 2B, as the top three cost too much and i like him for what he's going for considering the guys near him. another one of the many 2B with big question marks, but that lineup is enticing

He moving up anyone's draft boards? Certainly has the lineup around him to help generate counting stats and he should be a solid AVG contributor, even if the HR/SB aren't great. He feels like Neil Walker but with some real upside in that lineup.

The kid has always been able to hit, and I wouldn't be surprised if he was in for a big year.

I think he has his best season this year. For reasons stated above and the fact that he has enough years under his belt to finally break out.

Disagree that he's overrated. For 1 his price is pretty low this year, especially compared to last year. Secondly, he's one of those players (like Ichiro) who doesn't walk a ton, but has a really good average. Unless you're in an OBP, shouldn't really matter. Maybe it depresses his runs by 10.... maybe.
Makes him a better fantasy player (if you're in a 5x5 league with average) than in real life.
I think 15-15-80 runs with a 280+ average is very useful. Some upside for more. Not being in the 2 hole isn't ideal, but he might find his way there.

.306AVG / 20HR / 90RBI / 80R / 20SB
- He hit .322 and .306 in 2007 and 2008.
- He hit 18 home runs in 2011 in just 140 games. In 162 games, he would've reached 20HR's.
- He crossed the plate for 86 runs in 2011 in just 140 games.
- He has stolen 14 bases in the past 3 years. 6 more stolen bases isn't too much more to ask if he's getting on base more (higher batting average, more hits) and if he has a career year.
he most likely won't reach those #'s but that IS his potential. If he stays scorching hot in the 1st month of the season (like he's been in spring training), scioscia might actually move him up to the #2 spot which would really boost his counting stats.

Fair points. Just keep in mind that he had a strong spring last year, but then followed up with a subpar regular season...

He hasn't been too bad. Only 3 runs scored is more a product of the crappy Angels hitting than an indictment of Kendrick.

that I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat,
that's all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red,
a lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord,
as long and sharp as yours.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke,
that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall,
with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall,
and not a soul to hear.
