So is this guy just doomed to mediocrity now or does anyone see him having some upside this year? Second year in Petco and another year removed from TJ any chance for a resurgence? I know he hasn't exactly been lighting it up this spring...

Let's relax here fellas, the guy is hardly worthless. As as end-game fantasy starter, he was a solid home start close to flithy when pitching at Petco last year.
Double digit wins and 175 K's is hardly chopped liver, even in 12 team leagues.
He's definitely worth a buck or two on draft day.

He's not completely worthless, but is frustrating to own. He has little consistency in his game and is prone to big blowups. He's more of a home only streamer to me.

He gives up runs in the first inning but than settles down. If he can overcome that he could be decent. Will always have a high BB rate though.

Owned him last year, and while he is frustrating to watch, the final outcome seemed OK more often than not, good K's. Just gotta be ready for the big blowup with him.

Dude walked over 100 batter in 182 innings last year. His whip was nearly 1.50. I cant see any reason to unless one were desperate for Ks and your roster is well equipped with ratio pitchers to overcompensate for his WHIP and Era shortcomings...

He is a streamer only, which means waiver fodder imo. Yes, let me pre-empt your post He-Man-20-team-league-guy - talking about 12-team leagues or less.
I wouldn't even stream him personally - he destroyed me every time I dared.

I'm not an Edison Volquez fan by any means and I seriously doubt I'll roster him on any team this year. However, if you have a deep bench and/or stream he can be useful at Petco. Home stats last year has him with a 2.95 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 99 Ks in 100.2 IP
Hummm ... On 2nd thoughts maybe I'll find a spot for him on the bench and spot start him

I'm the last guy on here to drive the bus for the Volquez fan club, but here are his 2012 home stats
17 games started - 6 wins, 5 losses, 2.95 ERA, 99 Ks in 100.2 Ip, .208 BA against.
Granted it's Russian roulette to start him on the road even in a favorable matchup, but based on that one year sample size and the fact that he is another year removed from TJ, I still think there is bit of upside here. The issue will always be the walks. If he could somehow take a page from say an Edwin Jackson, whose control has improved drastically each of the last two years, then maybe there is mixed league potential for more than just WW fodder.

I stream SP's in roto and was targeting Volquez vs. Mets as my opening day SP. That's not going to happen now. He's currently pitching against the Reds with 5 IP, 6 BB, and 1 K. It looks like he's heading for his 2nd consecutive season of allowing 100 or more walks. Ridiculous.

I was going to do the same, but hes just so bad on the road, mets or not. Home game streamer until he proves otherwise

He may not even be that, now that the fences have been moved in.
