What is your outlook for Hicks, now that he has been named the starter in CF.

Aaron Hicks was officially named the Twins' center fielder after going 4-for-4 against the Blue Jays on Sunday.
The big game raised his spring average to .350. We don't expect Hicks to be a big asset in average or the power categories as a rookie, so his mixed-league value figures to hinge on his steal total. He swiped 32 bases in Double-A last year, and if he approaches that number for the Twins, he'll probably be a decent mixed outfielder. If he comes in closer to 15-20, like he did in his previous two full minor league seasons, then his value could be limited to AL-only leagues.

Speculative, cheap end game source of steals. If he leads off then he could score a good amount of runs too but wouldn't be surprised if he struggled either. He's skipping AAA and while he flashed some power last year in AA, he has a lot of swing and miss in his game with a K % hovering int he 20% range. He will talk a walk which is really nice and has led to a high OBP% but besides rookie ball and even with some supremely high (which is okay for a speed guy) BABIP, he's never hit .300 in the minors. Hard to speculate that he'll hit right away in the majors but stranger things have happened. I'd guess he'll be in the .240-250 range though.....

I'm sure the dynasty league players will be all over this guy, but the rest of us should pass or take a super late round, $1 flier.

I think for drafts starting now his ADP is going to go way up, especially in leagues where people pay attention. I'm buying on him but I can't justify it until after pick 200 at the earliest. He has a minor league walk rate around 10%, so he's a good target in OBP leagues. He's a former 1st round pick that could be a 4 category guy (all except RBI), so he's a nice lottery ticket, but realistically we might be dropping him in a month, so for non keepers you still have to take guys like Coco Crisp and Jayson Werth first IMO.

3 for 5 today with 2 runs, 2 rbi's, a triple and apparently another great defensive play. Average up to .379, playing everyday and hitting in front of Mauer, Morneau and Willingham. This cat could be for real...

I still think it just spring training numbers. However, I hope you are right as he is my 5th OFer. :)

As someone who follows the Twins quite closely, I really do not feel that there is anything to see here. When all is said and done, he will split AB's with Mastroianni, maybe Mastroianni even getting more AB's. Hick's upside would be .250/10/45 with 55 runs and 20 SBs, which you can find anywhere. I do not think he will sniff 400 AB's, and it will take at least 500 AB's to surpass 70 runs in the Twins line-up.

Why the low ABs? He is one of your better prospects, and usually they want these guys to play every day. Maybe he gets sent back down at some point during the season, but I'll worry about that when we get there.

Considering they are keeping him up and throwing out the arbitration clock. Why would they not play him everyday?

Thought this was interesting.

Had another scout say to me today that while he was impressed by Red Sox' Jackie Bradley Jr., he likes Twins' Aaron Hicks even more.

I couldn't disagree more with this post. A notoriously thrifty team doesn't jump a guy from AA to the opening day roster unless they plan to play him a lot.

Love this guy, sent Freese to the DL and picked up him up. Definitely worth a flier, could be a nice speed/power combo for dirt cheap.

I couldnt disagree more. I aslo follow the team closely and am from the Twin Cities. Hicks will get 600 abs if he stays healthy and can hit at least.250 Mastoaroni is a one trick pony. He can steal bases when he gets on but he is not a very good hitter. The Twins are in a rebuilding year and Hicks is gonna get every chance to play every day. I like what I see so far in spring training. I would compare him to Span in terms of what kind of player he looks like right now.

Exactly if that was the case they would just start Mastro and keep Hicks in the minors until it was time to call him up without having to start his arb clock early. I have read a few articles about the GM saying that he owes it to his veterans to bring Hicks up and that he has earned the job outright. For someone who follows the twins "CLOSELY" Maybe these articles from Minnesota may have gotten passed you.

No, they didn't, maybe I do not believe what comes out of every GM's mouth. I just do not think that he will be able to hit over .240 in the major leagues this year. What the Twins are doing with him is ridiculous, to start Hick's clock with a team that has no chance to compete for anything in the next two years is idiotic. If this was Bill Smith doing this, you would hear a lot more groans. But since it is Terry Ryan, everybody just goes along with it.

I can easily see, and I fully expect, Hick's to be given a fairly long leash, around 350-400 AB's, at that point he will be hitting .230-.240, with 8-10 HR's and 15-20 SB's, and the Twins will be forced to move him to AAA.

I see, you're entitled to your projections I didn't mean to be rude I just thought you meant a timeshare all season. I do agree 100% about Terry Ryan being full of crap, I heard on the radio today in some article in today's paper that he said its laughable to suggest the Twins would keep a prospect in the minors to limit their service time which everyone knows a ton of teams do, including the Twins.
