He's always been a good player.... I'd say in leagues of 14 teams or more he's someone you would want to roster. Leagues that are 12 teams or less I'd probably just keep an eye on him for now unless you are hurting for an outfielder. His ceiling would be something like 15-20 HR and 20-25 SB's in a full season of work, if healthy. He's a career .256 hitter though so I'd probably expect his average to hover around that range.

Is he healthy and ready for opening day? Last I heard, he had hamstring tightness.

1/4 last night, but knocked in both of the Mariners runs on a single up the middle.

I am monitoring him in my deeper (20-team league) having lost Ryan Ludwick yesterday. If you're even considering him, chances are you are in a league where a cheap source of power (15 HR) and speed (20 SB) is very valuable.

He will not have everyday starter ABs though; starting tonight he is already platooning with Ibanez and Bay is hanging around as well.

The Mariners want to make sure he stays healthy this year. The'll shift Saunders to CF and put Ibanez into LF vs RHP's quite often this year. I think it's great for the Mariners. Not so good for Gutierrez owners.

Very solid line last night. 3/5 with a HR, 3 runs and 3 RBI.

With a few more lines early in the season like this, I could see him earning more playing time and solidifying himself at the top of the order.

I am all aboard as a solid OF3 in deeper (16+) leagues.

That's 3 lead-off home runs now for 4 total on the season. Could do worse out there.

He is both unlucky and fragile. He lost most of a season to irritable bowel syndrome and then most of another to an oblique strain. There is an above average chance that his next harsh sneeze will sideline him for the rest of this season.

I remember last year he was healthy for like a week, then got drilled in the ear on a pick off attempt.

Lets hope he can stay healthy because clearly he is off to a real nice start. I just DL'ed Cespedes and added Guiterrez so hopefully the guy continues to hit!

Well, he has been in and out of the lineup here the last week first the word was the Mariners wanted to keep him 'healthy' and 'fresh' and now the word is he had a sore groin issue.

I am considering actually dropping him in my 14 teamer...

Even when Gutierrez appears healthy and is hitting the ball well, he remains by far the guy most likely to end up on your team's DL. Unfortunately, when you are scanning the WW, his is a name you really should just leave alone and let someone experience the pain.

As soon as I picked up the guy and made the post he sits due to groin tightness. I agree with uwguy98....let some else deal with this guy. Stay away. He's going back to my FA pool on Monday.

Franklin Gutierrez left Monday's game with an injury.

Gutierrez walked off the field with the Mariners' trainer after failing to make a diving catch in the fourth inning. The club will update his status soon, but he presumably aggravated his pelvis/groin injury. A trip to the DL could be forthcoming.

------------------------

There had been talk about how he'd be going on the DL to coincide with Saunders coming off later this week. Being pulled from the game tonight might be the icing on the cake of this story.

I am betting Brian Roberts could give him a run for his money. Mariners can't catch a break this year :(

No kidding. Too bad for the team and Gutierrez, when healthy he's a gold glove CF with the ability to give a team .250/10/15 with some runs from the leadoff or #2 spot in that lineup.
