Kyle Blanks a few years back was a top prospect.  Standing at 6'6" with the power he showed in the minors it was no secret as to why.

But Blanks has been some what of a let down at the big league level thus far into his career but despite low BAs he has always produced solid OPSes.

He has a career .905 OPS in the minor leagues and a .968 OPS in AAA thru 110 games over 4 stints.

Blanks is absolutely red hot right now and Quentin's suspension opened the door for Blanks to get more ABs.  If Blanks continues to hit he will steal RF and 1B time from Denorfia and Alonso.

Here is my formula for Blanks:

Bad hitters park - bad lineup - horrid K rates = probably nothing to see here.

He could be Chris Carter type cheap power producer who will be an average drain, K a ton, but still have a decent OBP.  Hitting in Petco and being surrounded by crude limits his upside.  I'd like him more in a better situation.

Denorfia will always be in the lineup against lefties. He's hitting .338 with a .900 OPS vs lefties since the ASB of 2011 (350 AB's).

It's still a pitcher's park but they did move the fences in some this year, if I remember correctly.

So did Citi Field last year and runs per game stayed the same.  Safeco this year is playing the same way.

Still small sample sizes, but those Parks due to climates in those cities will probably not even come alive until June - July.  So 2-3 months of boring scoring games most likely still.

Power is very real, everything he hits he hits very hard, that being said he doesn't hit much and I wouldn't pick him up...

I was keeping an eye on him and took a flier. Maybin to the DL so playing might already be opened up. I would think they shift Venable/Denorfia to CF right? In my NL only leagues you don't find his kind of power potential on the free agent list very often

No

Your logic and insight seem spot on and I am sure haven't gone unappreciated.  Unlike my sarcasm.

"K a ton"

He used to strikeout a lot.  But so far this year his contact rate has been outstanding.  He is the best hitter in that lineup right now.

Yeah hitting in PETCO blows.  But that doesn't make it impossible to think that he could actually produce, hell half of his games are on the road.  PETCO never stopped Adrian Gonzalez from hitting 40.

No I'm not saying Blanks will hit 40 so don't try to jump down my throat over that.

Besides PETCO moved their fences in and right now they are the 5th best park to hit home runs in.  Yes small sample but clearly the fence move is helping.  Evereth Cabrera already has matched his last year's HR total.

I can totally see him hitting 25+ HRs this year despite missing the first 2 weeks and the fact that he may have to fight off a platoon in the next couple of weeks.

This is true.  But keep in mind Yonder Alonso is much better against righties than he is against lefties.

Also if Blanks hits, he becomes full time.  Denorfia will spell him vs lefties or move him to 1B vs lefties, but I don't see him holding a majority time share over Blanks.

That's a big if, in regards to playing time, with Venable, Denorfia and Quentin in the OF. Maybin is coming back soon, while Guzman, Kotsay and Amarista can steal some starts. Of course, things can change if he hits.

I was wondering too. Just posted the same thing on the Week 10 WW tout thread.
