I kind of feel like this guy is underrated. While the Astros are going to win like 50 games, I feel like most of their wins are going to be by <=3 runs. Don't feel like 25 saves is out of the question for him if he keeps the job.

If this guy deserves a thread, so do I.

In all seriousness, he's awful. I defended him last year, pulled up stats and tried to justify his job as closer -- but he blew up in my face. Two things would surprise me (1) if the 'Stros generate 25 save opps for him and (2) if he's around to close 25 save opps

He'll be traded at the trade deadline.

Billy Wagner will come back and get 25 saves before Veras does.

You'd think the Astros play close games, but there wins aren't always close. This team has the potential to be solid at hitting, and when they are hitting, they can put up some runs. Their issue is their starters, who are just horrible. Even the argument that since the Astros are bad, they'll naturally produce more save opps isn't true.

Veras simply isn't a good pitcher, and he will get traded to go be either a set up guy or middle reliever at the deadline, depending on how teams view him. He isn't worth it in fantasy.

I'm playing against him this week.  Expect a few more saves this week, and then next week he will remember that he is indeed NOT Lee Smith.
What is both surprising and delightful is that spectators are allowed, and even expected, to join in the vocal part of the game.... There is no reason why the field should not try to put the batsman off his stroke at the critical moment by neatly timed disparagements of his wife's fidelity and his mother's respectability. ~George Bernard Shaw

he made it so close to 25 up to the trade deadline!

Never underestimate closers on bad teams. That's a helpful amount of saves

Is this guy droppable now?  He was decent as a full-time closer, but now that he might get an opportunity here or there, his value has obviously dropped.  No Hold category in my league.

yes, I would drop. There are better set-up men around for ratios, especially if you don't count holds. He won't close

Note that as soon as you say "in my league" it's a discussion for bench coach. Don't want to be "that guy" but too much of this lately.

As for Veras, I think he's a hold for a week, maybe 2, to see how it plays out in deeper leagues. But he's probably droppable in shallow leagues.

What if I would've said "in leagues where Holds don't count" instead?  Would that have made a difference?

Not sure if you're being smart or not but yeah, that would've been a better phrasing that covers mass-discussion and not league/team specific.

Not being smart - doesn't translate well in written form.  Don't want to offend people on the board.  I'm relatively new to this.
