I'm wondering how many clipping or block in the back calls this guy caused. YAC is ridiculous.
1st Fantasy pick ever Thurman Thomas #3 Overall. Should have taken Jerry Rice.

If you get his special teams TD's in your league for the player rather than the team, have at it...otherwise, he won't be worth so much, at least for this season.

He runs like a running back with the ball I'm his hands. It's a good thing too, cause Ponder the garbage man will have trouble finding him on routes past 5 yards.

We do get credit for the return TD for the player but not the yardage. I'm fine with sitting on him for a year or 2 if he runs that well after the catch now. Once he gets route running and the nuances of playing the position down, it seems like he'd be pretty much unstoppable.

He looks great in those college clips, but the problem is that even if he beats out Simpson for playing time, he's the #3 WR at best (Jennings and Wright will be #1 and #2). Add in the facts that the offense is built around Adrian Peterson and 60% of red-zone pass plays are going to target Kyle Rudolph, and I'm not optimistic about his fantasy value even as a flyer this year.

That being said, I'm very optimistic about what he's going to do for this team in the next 2-5 years...

I wouldn't be surprised for Patterson to come out of nowhere and light up the field in 2013. If you're an electric player, it's hard to keep the ball out of your hands. Is Greg Jennings really that electric type of player, as good as he is?

I could see Patterson coming on actually hurting Rudolph more than it really "hurts" Patterson. The more options Ponder has in the passing game, the less he has to rely on / checkdown to his TE.

I think by the end of preseason we'll have a good idea of where Patterson's fantasy value will lie for the 2013 season (barring injuries to their other WR's, of course).

As good as Jennings is, I could honestly see Patterson ending up their #1 WR by the end of the season. Greg Jennings is 5'11". I could see him being more of a complementary WR to Patterson if Patterson can come into his own early.

Obviously you're not reaching to get Patterson. Patterson's ADP is 12.03 in 12-team leagues.

Any guy with this kind of athleticism and talent, gets me excited. See Tavon Austin, Jahvid Best, etc.

Huh? Wright would be the slot guy. He definitely will play across from Jennings once he passes up Simpson.

Yes, Wright is the slot guy and so we're likely to see just Jennings and Patterson/Simpson when there are only 2 WRs on the field. But a lot of the plays with only 2 WRs on the field will be Adrian Peterson runs; and even if Patterson does overtake Simpson, it doesn't mean Simpson won't see the field in 2WR plays at all. And when they go 3-wide, Patterson will be the third option most of the time: Jennings is getting paid $9 million a year to be a #1 receiver and he will get his targets, and Jarius Wright looked as electric as anyone last year and he's had time to learn the playbook.

But your point is valid, and if Patterson can learn enough of the playbook he could explode with Adrian Peterson and Greg Jennings distracting the defense.

So I'll stop arguing like a pessimist, because the truth is I'm a Vikes fan and I think Simpson is a bum and Jennings is solid but past his prime. I still dream about the days of old when we had an exciting WR like Randy...

Small hands is a concern for me but Patterson is explosive as can be. Will be watching closely in the preseason.

As a Vikes fan I was stoked when they traded up for him. The only problem I can see is that the Vikes tend to be slow learners as to how to utilize their skill players in an optimal way (AP being the exception) so I would encourage anyone who drafts him to hold onto him for awhile because it may not be until a few games into the season before he really starts producing. Another thing to watch is how often they put him in the backfield, if he's getting 5-6 carries or screens a game that could be huge.

he's no percy harvin

edit: i think he'll have a josh gordon like season. he'll have a couple really good games where he flashes his ability, and then shuts it down for weeks afterwards. if he had a better qb throwing to him i'd feel a lot better about him.

i think hopkins will end up being the best of the bunch. dude's got size, speed, hands, and knows how to run routes. if patterson can keep his head on straight he'll be a beast, but i think that's a big if at this point.
