Not knowing anything about this guy, is he anything more than a blocking TE? Will he take over some of Pitta's receptions? Is he worth picking up?

No. I wouldn't want to count on Dickson as your TE unless you're in a very deep league. I'd look to other waiver wire options or make a trade.

I mentioned in another thread that housler could be a solid replacement. Palmer turned Brandon Myers into a te1 for a stretch last year and housler is much better than him. Maybe Jordan Cameron is on a waiver wire or two as well.

I actually like Dickson as a LATE TE pick.

I project Dickson for 55 catches, 589 yards, and 6 TDs. That makes him 12th in my TE rankings in standard scoring.

The Ravens just have nobody else to throw it to. Dickson did have 54/528/5 in 2011, so it's not like my projection is off the wall.

Not at all, very reasonable, and those numbers were with Pitta there. He should be quite servicable, I agree. What are the negatives on him??

Who becomes the #2 target here? Dickson?

What are the chances Ray Ray starts lining up more at the slot and gets 70+ receptions?

I see Dickson as Pettigrew with slightly more upside. I think Torrey Smith benefits way more from Pitta going down.

I can't believe it took so long for this thread to be started.

Anyway, Dickson is obviously now a relevant fantasy commodity. In my adjusted TE rankings, he'll fall somewhere in the 14-17 range.

WOW ! This getting to be a really slim class of quality TEs, Pitta is OUT for the YEAR, Gronk is Less than 100% & not sure when or how close he will get to being the old Gronk, Hernandez is well we all know the story. Thank God I kept Graham as 1 of my keepers, I know Every week I'll have an advantage over Everyone at the TE position.

Dickson surely a viable option. He was suppose to the man 2 seasons ago until Pitta emerged. I would agree, think Pettigrew or Finley.

I see him a little more as a more consistent Martellus Bennett 2012:

55 / 626 / 5 TDs

That's Bennett's 2012 statline, not my 2013 projected stats for Ed Dickson 2013.

He should see more passes than Bennett did, solely because the Ravens do not have an established WR2 (and I don't think Torrey Smith is as good as either Victor Cruz or a healthy Hakeem Nicks). More passes also probably will lead to more TDs (even if only slightly more).

In 2009, with Brett Favre at QB, Visanthe Shiancoe (Dickson's new TE teammate) put up the following statline:

56 / 566 / 11 TDs

I think a good estimate for Ed Dickson's stats this season are:

64 receptions / 735 receiving yards / 8 TDs

Not bad if you wait late. I think the receiving TDs will likely hold steady at roughly that area (I think they have a better redzone weapon in Leach + Rice), but the receiving yards could dip slightly from my 735 projection (Pitta had 669 on 61 receptions, for example).

Either way, if you wait on TE and miss out on guys like Cook and Cameron, Ed Dickson has become a viable option in a 12-team league (assuming you're stacked at your other positions because you waited on your TE).

Also, for comparison, Brandon Pettigrew's stats:

2010:
71 / 722 / 4
2011:
83 / 777 / 5
2012:
59 / 567 / 3 (I believe he missed time last season)

Good opportunity for Dickson here. If he can work on being one of Flacco's fav targets like Pitta he could emerge as a decent TE for sure. I bet the Ravens use him a decent amount.

Dickson isn't generating any buzz like J Cameron. Even Zach S from NE getting more buzz. What Gives?

he hurtn and jus too much uncenrtinity about him jus right now. Dude aint even practicin and he did nuttin last year. Its jus probably noone wants to hype him up becuz we dont know his ceilin and its probably not very high.

But torrey cant do all the catchn and Flacco loves his checkdowns and safe throws inside, so its verry possible that Dickson shines bright like a diamond dis year. Its not like his even gettn drafted in anythin but really deep leagues anyways, so he can always get scooped up off the wire anytime he shows what hes about.

So i guess its all on you, if u want to take a flier on him, its on you B.

I had a stacked team and no TE so I am going with Dickson. Don't love it, but there was nothing left in FA. Don't know why so many people have 2 TE's!!! Dickson is a good blocker (in on goal to go) and got more redzone targets than Pitta last year. Dickson and Pitta had a total of 127 combined targets last season. I wouldn't be shocked if Dickson surprised some people with Pitta out.

Ravens just cut two tight ends so either A) they think Dallas Clark is the answer after a putrid summer or B) Dickson is 100 percent over his tweaked hammy. Bet on B!
