Very nice hr.  looked a little like Hanley doesn't he?  Same big build for a shortstop, easy swing.  I'd like to see him steal more at the top of the lineup.  Man, Boston's got a good looking young player here.

I would agree with you on this. As he fills out he could be very similar to Hanley.

Glad to see a homer from him. He was just hitting singles. Guess he is starting to warm up. 1 hr and 2 rbi and a stolen base to boot. He won't be a top 5 SS this year, but I wouldn't doubt he is top 6-10 in SS. Needs to fill out a little more to get more power. I am just expecting a Machado type season out of him, .290-ish average and 15 homers, and lots of runs if they keep him in the 2 hole.

Why would you think he needs to fill out more to gain more power. He has displayed that he has very good bat speed and is capable of crushing pitches. I think he just needs to develop as a player but I'm not sure he needs to fill out more.

edit, just saw espn has him listed at 185. I'd be surprised if he did not already weigh more than that. 6 ft 3 185 is fairly thin. He looks bigger than that.

John Farrell to contemplate lineup possibilities
The impending return of Shane Victorino from the disabled list will provide John Farrell intriguing lineup options.

Victorino will almost certainly be plugged back into the second hole, but Farrell might place emerging Xander Bogaerts into the leadoff spot rather than move him down. That would result in Dustin Pedroia batting third.
That lineup would give the Red Sox a right-left-right configuration at the top of the order that Farrell covets, according to ESPN.
Bogaerts has earned consideration to take over the leadoff spot with an on-base percentage of .397.

Interesting, & good news for owners. Seems you'd want one of the 2 speed guys at one & XB in the 2 hole, where his patience & OB acumen would play best.

I see a lot of people saying he needs to gain weight and while that is true, remember he plays at Fenway and is a righty...that lack of power (as of right now) can be hidden with that short fence.

I'd like to see him stay up high on the lineup.

I'd like to see

In his defense, he may have actually been safe. He beat the tag at the bag but came off briefly after. I'm not sure he was actually tagged though. It was also a great throw

Would it be fair to say at this point that Bogaerts' value is considerably less in redraft leagues (12 teams for example) than keepers and dynasty leagues at this point?

Dropped to 7th in the batting order for Sunday's game. Don't know if this is a semi-permanent thing, but it's going to hurt his value some more.

I don't understand the Manager's reasoning for this. Carp and Nava bat in front of Bogaerts? Bogearts has incredibly base on balls skills. He is best suited for the two hole. I didn't think he would hit for a lot of power this year. but I was expecting a Machado like season hitting out the two hole.

The Sox don't like to pressure their rookies unless absolutely necessary.   Hitting him 7th isn't that surprising, but if the Sox don't start hitting collectively, and Grady stays in a funk - what owners *could* hope for:

Victorino
Bogaerts
Pedroia
Ortiz
Napoli
Sizemore
Pierzynski
3B (better when Middlebrooks is back)
Bradley

Now, the major argument is lineup R-L construction with the Bogaerts/Pedroia R-R combo and the Sizemore-Pierzynski L-L combo (which I'm not a fan of, but managers consider this all the time).

And yeah, he's keeper/dynasty gold, as redraft his value is tied to being a top 10 SS, but not likely to break the top 5 until the power comes (and it will, but highly unlikely at age 21 season).
