Anyone concerned about this nagging left elbow pain that he recently needed a shot for? Would suck if he is favoring that thing the rest of the year.

He said he has the issue every year around this time, gets a shot for it, rests a few days, and then he's fine.

Funny i never caught this in previous years. I just hope it is not to the point he needs a TJ.

Way over paid for the numbers he puts up.  Texas should have resigned Cruz or used the money for Tanaka?

Dr. James Andrews must be lurking around Rangers camp after hearing Choo has a sore elbow. He's already claimed a bunch of victims, Sano was the first major hitter, but Choo would be a boon for the Jim Reaper, balancing out his hitters and pitchers.

Which is interesting, because he's one of the more underrated fantasy baseball players out there. High probability of hitting 20/20 in Texas, among the favorites to lead the league in Runs, likely to drive in a few more runs without the pitcher hitting ahead of him and his average won't hurt you. Even more valuable in OBP leagues.

Should reasonably be taken in the same area as the Rios/Upton level of players, but tends to go a few rounds later in my experience.

Aren't most baseball players "overpaid" these days?

Wow I didn't realize he had Tommy John in 2007. Maybe it's time to get it done again. I'll likely be staying away this year.

This does seem to be the year of the double TJ.

He has elbow pain and he's already had Tommy John. I don't think you can just write it off. I know he said he had the same thing last year but this is another year of stress on it post TJ. Add in he can't hit a lefty worth a lick and I'm downgrading him. Not a ton, but I'm now putting him below Myers, Upton, and Craig.

He was a 4th round lock for me but this news just turns me off big time. Always been a big fan of Choo and have owned him a few on and off years. Never has he complained about his elbow to this extent. It's enough for me to seek a safer option though i wish he was just 100%. Hard to ignore needing a shot for the pain and not being able to play in the field cause it hurts to throw. He may be able to play through it but as a DH.

Ya, because it would of been smarter to sign a guy coming off a steroid suspension who posts a .320 OBP and has hamstring's that are made out of paper.  Choo is durable, is an OBP machine, and he is a plus defender as well.  Cruz is not durable, he is not a plus defender, and he is not an OBP machine.  He is a one trick pony.  There is a reason he got a 1 year deal.

I might be concerned if he wasn't playing through "pain" in spring training.

Dhing through pain. Swinging isn't the problem. Last time he threw a ball there was pain. If he's out there throwing at max velocity and having no issues next week he'll be bumped back up.

He's not a great fielder anyway - maybe he DHs more.

I'm not down with Choo this year BTW. He's a platoon player essentially. I need to have a solid hitter on the bench to start when Choo faces lefties. 4th round is too high for a guy you need to bench a third/quarter of the time.

I honestly don't look at that as a bad thing in H2H with daily lineup changes. You know you're getting a monster vs RHP, especially in OBP leagues. When he plays LHPs, you can just sub in a good bench player.

I wonder what happened to make his splits so drastic?

2008 vs lefties- 77 at bats, .286 average,  .169 iso
2009 vs lefties- 182 at bats, .275 average, .181 iso
2010 vs lefties- 193 at bats, .264 average, .068 iso
2011 vs lefties- 108 at bats, .269 average, .083 iso
2012 vs lefties- 206 at bats, .199 average, .087 iso.
2013 vs lefties- 181 at bats, .215 average, .040 iso.

Sooo he started out pretty good against them. Then didn't hit for power but still a respectable average. And now he's been reduced to pure garbage vs lefties. Obviously over time pitchers have made adjustments on him, and I'm wondering when the heck he fights back. The fact that he at one point hit them is a little glimmer of hope, but this nearly 400 at bat sample size over 2 years doesn't scream "bounce back". What happens if he has an unlucky or off year vs righties? Does he only hit .270 with 15-18 homers overall?

I was all set and ready to pretty much look at him how I would have looked at McCutchen. I thought in this Texas line up, and considering some how Elvis Andrus could even get 60+ rbi's in the 2-hole there, that Choo was looking at a near .300 average, 25 homer, 30 steal, 75 rbi, 115 run season. Yes, the steals are a clear career high, but watching Martin Andrus Rios and even Craig Gentry run wild makes me think that Ron Washington likes to run. I get that some of those guys are fast, but they all stole much more (except maybe Andrus) than expected.

Overall his numbers should be fine, but this extreme decline against lefties will certainly put a cap on what he can do.
