Biggest candidates for the 2014 hype train?

(Definition of hype train = Persuasion to view a player/draft a player much higher than their past production has warranted)

Please discuss.

Montee Ball (if/when Moreno leaves)
Cordarrelle Patterson

Though in both cases I think they will have breakout seasons, but the hype will be insane surrounding these two going into the season.

Per Ian Rapoport - Just said on @nflnetwork: #Broncos don’t expect to be able to sign RB Knowshon Moreno back for 14. He’s a free agent. Should hit the market.

Definitely all on board for Montee being a 3 down back next season.
Cordarrelle as well, especially if they can upgrade at QB. Kid is a flat out STUD. Percy version 2.0.

Andre Ellington will shoot up the boards in "expert" drafts.

Ladarius Green will probably be overdrafted by many.

I think Lattimore will be getting some hype, especially with Gore's performance in their final game of the season. Of course it was against Seattle, but there are arguments year in and year out about his age and tread on the tires. And that is definitely a run-first offense.

Yep. There will definitely be people betting that Gore finally falls apart and grabbing Lattimore early.

But sometimes the hype is warranted. If (emphasis on the "if") Lattimore's body allows him to get anywhere close to the player he once was, the sky is the limit for his upside.

Well hype is hype, regardless of whether or not it is warranted. All a bunch of guessing games until the speculations are confirmed or denied once the situations become realities (if they ever do).

So is this an overrated/bust thread? Players that will be hyped but wont live up to expectations. Or just players who will be hyped in general?

Still dont understand where all the ellington hate comes from. Led the nfl in ypc as a rookie behind a bad o line. The hype is warranted imo

General hype.

Sometimes it's good to buy into it -- in 2010, Foster went from a late-round flier in June to as high as a third-rounder by the end of August. He of course went on to put up 2,200 total yards and 18 TDs.

Then you have David Wilson, Lamar Miller, etc...

I was under the impression you are taking players who might have put up decent numbers (or at least are in conversations for one reason or another in the case of Lattimore) and will now be hyped going into 2014 whether it be for the reason that they will build on their stats due to more experience or because their situations are changing to better suit them and give them more chance of flourishing. I feel like the hype is just general for now, and the overrated/bust talk should come later because we really can't judge that as of now.

I think it is more about who will have inflated expectations beyond a level of actual production. Not necessarily bust, but a concept more in too-rich-for-my-blood type of thinking. an Example this year would be Lacy, He was someone who at the time was viewed no more than a RB2, but because of the wide range of views on how he would do by role (was he going to be an every down back?) and by expected output (People thought he could score up to 15 TDs). Ultimately, his value in the draft was something more akin to RB2 when many pegged him as more than a flex because experts all hyped him. However, we all know he performed much better than that and ended up as a RB1.

So to sum up: Hype can be good to highlight players who may outperform original expectation, but bad as they push up there value past sleeper / sneaky draft pick or auction value...

Another example: If Moreno leaves, no one is suggesting Ball could not be an elite player, but his status from sneaky pick this year evaporates, and immediately eveyone wants him - driving up his value potentially past where people want to take him. sure, he could perform at that level or higher relative to the inflated value driven by desire to merely have him on your team, but do you want to pay the extra premium to snag him at a value high than what could be considered a "fair price"

Gore/Lattimore would be a good handcuff competing for your very own RB2 spot. I could see myself on that train, but we'll see.

Sammy Watkins Hype Train, wonder what round he'll fall to for Fantasy.

It would be awesome if Khiry Robinson became the lead back for the Saints next season.

FSU WR Kelvin Benjamin might start getting on the hype train .. he's 6-foot-5 234 pounds of "get the frak out of my way" WR. As a FSU grad and fan, I think he's legit, and could be the next CJ type of WR. So, as a homer, I'll draft him in FF next year. Round will depend on team and offensive scheme. As of now, for me, prolly round 7 or later.

12 Team Standard Yahoo League w/ flex (No PPR)
QB - Tony Romo, Cam, Big Ben
RB - L. Bell
RB - R. Hillman
WR - D. Thomas
WR - J. Nelson
Flex - Darren Mcfadden (hope is eternal)
TE - T. Kelce, J. Witten
K - M. Crosby
D - Detroit
