My thoughts are that you should look into English lessons.

I'd be thrilled for my team to get him - this kind of talent doesn't come along very often. Could be a bust, but with the recent changes to the wage scale in the NFL, getting a possible premier edge rusher at the #2-5 slot value for the forseeable future would be a great move.

He has the talent to succeed, but his current work ethic will make him fail. The Ol' Ball Coach effectively called him out on it after the season as did Sapp during the combine.

Freak talent + horrible work ethic = huge potential for a bust.

I don't expect a ton of sacks his first year. There will be a learning curve for him. I expect 6-7 sacks.

Hey Ray. I never went down Ray. You never got me down Ray.

People saying Clowney has a poor work ethic really gets under my skin. You don't get to be that freak of an athlete with a poor work ethic. Yes, God has definitely done his part but you don't get to his level without hard work.
With that being said I'm expecting at least double digit sacks from him year one. Not much over that mark but with the freak that he is I'm going with at least 10.

He has a poor work ethic by any professional standard. Sure as an amateur athlete he can get by with his mediocre attitude, but not against professionals.

Speed, agility, and overall athleticism cannot be taught or greatly improved upon (assuming the individual does not have some health issue). Hence why you hear every NFL scout saying things like "you cannot teach speed." There were guys I went to high school with who could run 4.5 forty times all while having skipped every single summer workout, and I know for a fact they weren't working out on their own. The fact of the matter is many individuals who are graced with great talent often are able to slide by on that talent without having to put in any substantial work.

He put up 17 reps on the bench press at the combine. A terrible performance for an individual of his size and athletic prowess. Yes a guy like Jared Allen only put up 13 reps, but Allen has always been known for a high motor. In other words he is high effort once on the field. Clowney on the other hand is known to take plays off and play lazy if the play is running away from him.

When I look at Clowney I see a guy with immense talent but a lack of desire. Which is what should really be getting under your skin.

Worth a pick in a dynasty rookie draft, or is drafting IDPs taboo?
Only my 2nd year in IDPs.

Completely depends on scoring. In my league he wouldn't be worth a pick b/c defensive players don't score nearly as much as offensive players. If scoring is balanced, he's obviously worth a pick. Impossible to answer without specifics.

He went for a third in mine and Shazier went undrafted.
If that's whats happening then I am staying away and taking Shazier.

I didn't get to watch the game, how often did they have him in coverage? I really feel he'll be a top 20 IDP guy right away, his use in coverage will mean that he'll have a high floor (he'll get tackles) and he's going to get sacks, tackles for losses and strips, especially with teams worried about the beast on the other end. 1/2 the IDP leagues I'm in he's gone un-drafted, I guess its the uncertainty around being a rookie, watch him blow the f up.

I'd love to draft this dude on my team. He'll be facing single coverage all year long since teams will be focused on JJ Watt. I wouldn't be surprised if Clowney has a ridiculous year.
