So the Panthers are talking about dropping him.

1 simple question.

Who the Flux is going catch passes for panthers/cam?

Olsen is ok but not amazing.
Ginn is a deep threat.
Lafell is gone
Smith despite being 35, hurt and short was still the best.

I think they may get Nicks and draft a WR within the 1st 2 rounds. This draft is deep at wideout.

He could carve out a real nice role with flacco throwing bullets. Maybe not monster numbers but better than the last two years. Between torrey pitta and Steve that's alota mouths to feed but he will have some big weeks and might end up being the most consistent of the trio

I'd say this helps torrey and pitta more than smith. Even though Smith will eat up more targets than Marlon Brown, he'll draw coverage. Torrey was supposed to step up and be the WR1 last year and we all saw how that turned out. I think smith is a great player and will probably be a cheaper WR2 because of his performance. TY will go a round and a half ahead of him but they finished in the same spot fantasywise last year.

As long as you ignore the fact that TY was rotating with DHB for the first 7 weeks of the year. (Week 8 bye, they finally figured it out)  Also TY will be entering his 3rd year in the league as well as with Andrew Luck, whereas Smith is now going to a new system and zero chemistry.  Steve Smith is also ten (10) years older.

Steve Smith should slide right into the old Boldin role, because the Ravens realized they made a mistake letting him go.  For the 3 years prior to getting rid of him, Boldin averaged roughly 60/860/5.  Not bad, but definitely nowhere near WR2 territory.  That's low end WR3 stats.

Having said that, TY will have ups and downs due to his routes.  Add onto that, the fact that they just signed Hakeem Nicks, and he'll be slipping down boards as the weeks go by.
I do it for the likes...

He wouldve been a monster in New England, always thought Smith and VJax wouldve been a great duo in NE. Smith only recieves a slight bump going to a pass first offense. Panthers recieving core is terrible, they must be plotting to trade up.

If Smith and Flacco hit it off, he could become a PPR darling. I hear they are bringing him as the chain mover they missed in Boldin. Definitely on my radar in PPR formats

if smith is the new boldin, remember boldin wasn't anything but a ho-hum WR3 with flacco.

If Smith is healthy he has a chance to be the "#1" in this offense. He could be the volume guy running behind T. Smith clearouts. Of course the "volume" part is always an issue in this offense he's pretty good with the ball in his hands. With some YAC help he could be a WR3.

Not drafting him. And this is from a guy the lived in Carolina for his prime.

Not sure who kubiak wants to be the main wr. I would think Torrey but his route running is pretty limited. Smith is sort of too old to build a philosophy around.
