I'm a fan ... expecting a lot of 2 or 20 point performances but wouldn't mind him as my WR3

Won't have much value if they draft Beckham. Maybe more valuable in dynasty.

It will be interesting to see how much Wheaton has developed. Injury sidetracked him last season. With normal growth I thought he would surpass E. Sanders during 2013. That didn't happen. He's precisely the type of WR that Haley's attack favors, but until we see where his skill level is now he is very hard to project. I doubt the Steelers use a premium draft pick on a WR as there are just too many other pressing needs particularly on defense, but, no question, the Steelers do need more WR depth and that could impact Wheaton's value.

It sucks as a steelers fan that we have very few exciting fantasy options, I really hope Wheaton can become a nice pickup.

We will see, not sure how it'll turn out tho.

Not sold on Wheaton but I expect his price to be pretty low so I'll probably buy in on him, let him ride the bench, and hope for the best. He may not be a great every week play but as a bye week fill in, or a WR4 if you can play that many, he could make your fantasy week on 1 deep ball. Ben liked having Wallace around as a big play guy and Wheaton should fill those shoes pretty well while Brown eats up all the under routes. For his price I love the potential but without him proving he can handle the role, he's a risk. I'll gladly take a risk on a WR4 though hoping he can be much more than that.

I think Wheaton could become that Wallace type, but I agree its yet to be seen. I just want Steelers to become more fantasy relevant.

Maybe Bryant will be the one to jump out, we will have to see.

Sadly, I don't think Wheaton will be much more than a Sanders replacement.
I could be wrong though.

Wheaton was one of my favorite players in the '13 nfl draft. I'm not completely sold in terms of how the Steelers will use him, but I'm completely sold on his talent. Precise route runner, tough as nails, great hands, lightening quick and very good deep speed. He's one of the few receivers who could feasibly play all three receiver positions.

I've read recently that the Steelers will use him as their X, their deep guy, so he could rack up a nice amount of fantasy points from yardage. I'll be targeting him in the late rounds as a WR4 or 5. I think his floor this year is what Kenny Stills was last year. His ceiling is along the lines of TY Hilton or even DeSean Jackson.

Steelers have both a no doubt WR1 and a potential RB1. That's more than a lot of teams have.

Yea, but people don't build around Bell/brown. I love those guys but its not like I'm clamoring to get them, I hope to get them, but its not like they are stars people are really talking about in a huge way.

Now that can change, this could be Bells year to really shine. And Brown is always solid, but again I'm just being real, I love my Steelers but while we have sole fantasy goodness it not at a level of what some other teams have.

Isn't it better that people aren't really talking about them in a huge way? Antonio Brown was the #6 WR in standard and #2 WR in PPR last year. I would love to have him drop because he's "not a big name" WR in fantasy.

I think he's a huge sleeper and has pretty much secured the WR2 spot in Pittsburgh; also, he'll have to somewhat fill the 1300 YD 6 TD void left by Emanuel Sanders and Jerricho Cotchery. In addition, Antonio Brown will attract a lot of coverage, leaving Wheaton open in the slot a lot. I think he'll have a good season and establish himself as a fantasy WR3 by next year's draft.

He won't fill that void by himself. He'll have help in martavis Bryant and or Justin Brown. Guys with actual height. And decent wheels.

Cotchery alone had 10 TDs last year. Wheaton is one of my favorite sleepers. I actually had my eye on him last year as a late round sleeper. Never materialized but I think this year it does and he is a reliable WR3 that can be had very late.

That line you mentioned for Sanders & Cotchery seemed awful low so I checked and these are the lines that I found for 2013:

32 Emmanuel Sanders PIT 26 4 16 1 25 0 67 732 10.9 6 178.70
36 Jerricho Cotchery PIT 31 10 16 1 -5 0 46 607 13.2 10 166.20

That's a combined 113 catches / 1339 yards / 16TDs. That is a lot of production that needs to be divied up.

A lot of those 10 TDs will be going to Heath Miller this season.

He'll loom around 6-9 which should still give 7-10 touchdowns. If Wheaton can put up 1000 yards and 6-8 touchdowns I'd take him at a WR3 price tag all day.
