He just got called up and he is having a great year in the minors. Is there anything to see here?

Cheap power. PCL inflated stats.

Giants beat writer Henry Schulman says the plan is to play Duvall at first base when Morse plays left field. Posey also gets time at first base so I don't think Duvall will get more than an occasional start with some pinch hitting sprinkled in.

Well, I know nothing about this guy but he just homered for his first major league hit.

I think the power is legit - 30 hit in CAL league in 2012 and ignore last year (diagnosed with diabetes).  Yes PCL but the guy was on pace for over 50 homers.  Didn't Goldy get dismissed for his numbers in the PCL?

Yes he did get dismissed and that caused a lot of people to miss him, the numbers were right in our face too.

Couple important differences with that comp.  Goldschmidt never played in AAA, was called up from AA where he was sporting a 1.061 OPS with a .435 OBP.  Duvall had a .785 OPS in AA with a .320 OBP.

Also, a lot of the negative feelings around Goldschmidt came from Keith Law being down on him IMO.  A lot of people listen to Law's opinion like it's gospel because he's the most mainstream scouting source out there, especially 3-4 years ago.  Goldschmidt's OPS was 1.026 in the minors, while Duvall's was .842.  Goldschmidt's numbers were truly staring everyone in the face.

Good points guys - thanks.  Certainly not trying to suggest he's on par with Goldy by any means, just that his example has taught me not to reflexively overlook prospects simply because of hitter-friendly environments

I have him on my watch list. The Giants need some power in the lineup. So I guess the answer will be how the Giants plan on using him. Stop gap until Belt returns or something more?

I thought I recently read that Belt was close to starting a rehab?
