Can anyone shed some light as to why he did not attempt a stolen base last year in 45 games? His minor league numbers from 2007 suggest he could a 25-30 guy. Throw in a nice average, and you have a pretty solid late round "sleeper." Though Im not sure what the heck happened with the speed. Was there an injury?

I checked around and I didn't see an injury...He had pretty high strikeout numbers in the post season, perhaps he had a hard time reading big league pitching?

yup, he had about 25 steals in 400 ab's last year in the minors, then nothing with the indians. he could be a 300/10 guy with about 30 steals if the speed is legit. plus if he remains in the 2 hole, lots of runs as well...very good sleeper if the sb's are there...

Maybe it was confidence/manager confidence in the position after Barfield had been benched. With the position clearly his going into '08 I expect him to run.

Yeah, that is odd...Let's hope whatever it was is fixed and he at least tries to swip a base or two in spring training.

this is something to pay attention to in spring..if hes batting second and swipes a few bags, you have a legit sleeper guy. perfect backup guy with upside to start later in the year....

As Im sure you already know Csq, Im a huge fan of Asdrubal. This kid has shown that he has the tools to play in the bigs in only 45 games. He struggled a bit in the playoffs but he finished the regular season with great numbers. I as well dont understand his stolen base situation. He is an excellent fielder and I think its his spot to lose even though he is a natural SS. He is my 2008 sleeper considering what he did in just 45 games. I see him producing alot of runs in that Indians lineup.

honestly he needs to steal some bases. i agree he would make a nice late round pick, if he steals bases. otherwise, he will merely be a late round pick ready to be dropped for the first hot player offf of waivers.

exactly - what he did in 45 games in the bigs was nothing special. he showed the ability to hit for a nice average, but with no power in the pedigree, he better run or else he will be a drop candidate.

ehh...if he had 10 steals sprinkled in, that would have looked great. the avg and runs scored were solid, but no steals is a red flag to me...

Anyone have any more information on this guy? I'm thinking that he could provide good value at 2B/SS but it's tough to tell if he will be running this year.

He also hit his 1st HR of the season in game 1 of the double header. I actually drafted this guy...but dropped him long ago.

Owned him in dynasty league hoping for at something shy of Orlando Hudson numbers, but it's looking more like Tim Hudson's line. Wonder if they'll ever give Josh Barfield another shot.

Asdrubal is a remarkable defensive player. His natural position is SS. Barfield will get a shot at some point but not at the expense of Asdrubal.

Something will have to be done with Peralta, traded or moved to 3B, before Barfield comes up and plays everyday.
