The Yankees are calling him up. This guy is a SB demon (34 in AAA) and can actually get on base (unlike Melky). Those in AL only leagues may want to pick him up ASAP.

Yeah unlike Cabrera who can't get on base or steal, but will hit a HR every now and then. I think Gardner could help in three categories if given playing time (R, SB & AVG.), especially in the Yankees lineup.

With Melky, Abreu, and Damon in the OF not sure if this kid will get enough PT to be worthwhile in all but the big-arse leagues. I'm pretty sure Posada will be DH and this kid will only be playing if one of the other OF needs a break.

...but thanks for the heads up, let's see what this kid can do. I haven't heard much of him.

11 doubles and 10 triples in 282 AB's.... He gets extra bases. Besides 34 SBs in 282 ABs with a .412 OBP, yeah he's good. His .287 average seems like it should carry over fairly well even though he doesn't have the best contact rate his xbh rate is good at 29.63% as well as a very high walk rate drawing a walk every 5.62 Plate Appereance.

Along with the fact that in his last 34 ABs he is 9 for 9 in SBs hitting .324 with 8 K's and 15 BB's! The Yankees need this type of spark at the top of the lineup. They have 48 runs scored out of their leadoff spot in the lineup. Which is 18th overall in the majors. Yet they are 2nd in the majors in OBP production out of the leadoff spot with a .377 OBP. A lot of that has to do with ARod being injured for awhile, but honestly if you are 2nd in OBP out of your 1 hitter yet you are 18th in the league at getting him around the bases, something needs to change. Damon isn't a true leadoff hitter right now, he could move down to 6th or 7th where his power would be utilized a little more. Keeping Jeter in his natural 2 spot.

Gardner will be on a platoon. It seems as if he will mainly get AB's from Melky (especially vs lefties) then platoon ABs to rest the older guys. The only bad thing about it is, it's a platoon where not only he is a lefty but everyone involved in the platoon are lefties. Damon, Matsui, Abreu, and then Melky is a switch hitter who due to lack of performance will already be losing AB's to this guy. Expect Gardner to get all ABs against lefties instead of Melky who can't hit them at all. Gardner OPSed .922 against lefties in AAA. All three of his HRs came off of lefites. But this overall hurts his value because you cannot expect players to run against lefties as much as righties.

Either way I see him being solid from here on out. And he might be able to steal every day playing time from Melky if he comes out hot. Regaurdless I expect him to steal near 15 bases and score 45 runs from here on out.

It's so bad to think Melky and Hughes have amounted to nothing when the Yanks good have gotten Johan with those guys.

source?

And I assume whoever was bashing Melky and Hughes was being sarcastic. If the Mets were eventually able to get Johan for Carlos Gomez and 2 tickets to Vince Coleman Fireworks Night, I seriously doubt the Yankees would have parted with Hughes and Melky...

Yup it's true. Called up.

And yes that was the original deal for Johan. I hope we can atleast get a hot dog for Melky now wink.gif

to all yankees fans out there.... do you guys really wish that santana deal came through??

i do think cabrera and damon (i know hes top 10 in AVG) should be moved
i was unaware of gardner but i have heard plenty of a future great CF in austin jackson
i think cabrera may block either of them and in the meantime a better stopgap may be available

i think as crazy as it sounds andruw jones would have a major resurgence if he opts out (think its a 1 year deal with options for next few years)---a big bat with decent wheels not to mention hes a gold glove OF who has major postseason experience

Guess this kid may be seeing AAA again if he doesn't start hitting the ball. Nice DEF. play in the first though, will give him credit there.

The poor guy is hitting the ball on the nose with most ABs. Just hitting it at someone. The important thing that I'm sure Girardi is pleased with is the fact that he doesn't look lost up there. The hits will come and when they do, so will the bags.
