Ok, so I figured if we have a thread reminding us of the boneheaded mistakes we've made in the '07 season, we need to balance the universe with a thread to brag in.

My best WW pickup has probably been Reggie Willits. Either that or Josh Hamilton.

My best trade so far just occured recently. I gave up Zambrano and a WW pick (we only get 26 a season) for Beltran. I'm still ecstatic about the value I got in return for CZ.

What about you?

Brad Penny off the the free agent scrap pile in week 2 of the season. He has been money so far (I stress so far).

I've had a couple of good pickups including Josh Hamilton, Akinori Iwamura, Ryan Braun, and Fausto Carmona. None of that outweighs a big trade that I made though. I gave up Ian Kinsler, Josh Beckett, and David DeJesus for Miguel Cabrera and Edgar Renteria.

Well, this one's complicated, because I made 4 trades in 1 night (took 2 weeks to negotiate, but once the 1st trade came through, the other 3 fell into place):

(AL-only too)

STEP 1 - Got Trading Pieces

Got R. Willits, C. Pena, J. Accardo & C. Gaudin off WW

STEP 2 - TRADES

TRADE 1

Gave up R. Willits, B. Roberts & C. Gaudin for a stiff OF (Wilkerson - dropped him when I got Pena), J. Barfield & J. Bonderman
(Owner needed speed BADLY, and had tons of SP's to give)

TRADE 2 (Immediately after Trade 1)

Traded J. Bonderman, J. Accardo, D. Jeter, J. Giambi (2 weeks ago, both owners agreed he was hurting) & D. Dejesus & Jeter
Got back A-Rod, J. Peralta, C. Figgins (when he was hitting .133), P. Byrd and J. Borowski
(A-Rod in the final year of his contract, other owner needed both SP & RP badly, also realizing A-Rod wasn't staying on his team next year, so a bit of a keeper issue for him).

TRADE 3 (Immediately after Trade 2)

Traded J. Borowski to Indians fan for T. Jones (OOPS)

Trade 4 (Immediately after Trade 2)

Traded C. Pena & M. Garza (minors) for V. Wells and R. Ortiz
(V. Wells in last year of his contract; only unbalanced trade I'm allowed for year salary-wise, team owner desperate for SP's and future, had SB's to spare, so Pena/Wells not that far off otherwise in AL-only leagues)

STEP 3 - WAIVER WIRE

Add B. Morrrow, release R. Ortiz (gets rid of the garbage)

After that great night, the net effect of my trades was:

I GIVE:

C. Pena
R. Willits
C. Gaudin
J. Accardo
(All claimed for FAAB $)

B. Roberts
D. Jeter
D. Dejesus
M. Garza
(Only 3 guys off my draft roster, 1 off my minors)

I GET:

J. Barfield
J. Peralta
A-Rod
V. Wells
C. Figgins
P. Byrd
T. Jones
B. Morrow (Waiver wire pickup)

Taking the WW pickups out, I end up trading Roberts, Jeter, Dejesus & M. Garza for A-Rod, Peralta, V. Wells, J. Barfield, C. Figgins, T. Jones, P. Byrd & then pick up B. Morrow to keep my WHIP/ERA sane instead of R. Ortiz. Missed out by trading Borowski for Jones (oops), but I love my chances now to take the crown this year.

FYI, none of the trades gets vetoed (and not a single objection), since each trade alone meets needs of other owners very clearly, and Wells trade allowed as the single unbalanced trade owners are allowed to do (taking on 1 player with a salary of greater than $25).

We changed from waiver claim to FAAB 3 years ago, gotta say I love the FAAB system. cool.gif

--------------------
AL-only, 10 team 5x5 keeper league (max 15), $260 draft , $100 FAAB, 4 minors

C J. Mauer $11 FINAL, G. Laird $7**
1B/3B/CI C. Pena $10, E. Hinske FAAB, M. Cabrera $5* DH - J. Thome $10 FINAL
2B/SS/MI BJ Upton $20 3-year, C. Figgins $21, J. Lugo $19
OF G. Sizemore $20 FINAL**, C. Crawford $42, J. Kubel $16, J. Cust FAAB, B. Francisco FAAB

P CC Sabathia $18 FINAL, S. Kazmir $27, J. Shields $1, E. Jackson $1, C. Lee FAAB, J. Contreras FAAB, G. Perkins FAAB
P T. Jones $14, T. Percival $14**

DL - T. Buck $7, S. Casilla $1
Minors - D. Price, A. Jackson, D. Jennings, O. Tejada, A. Lind (FAAB)
*acquired Cabrera since I owned C. Maybin at $5 (wohoo)
**acquired Sizemore, Laird & Percival for D. Young/Liriano/Gaudin/Shoppach

I completely forgot that I picked up Iwamura as well after he was dropped when he got hurt.

Of course, he then proceeded to get hurt after I picked him up.

My best add so far has to be Lincecum.

Also grabbed Zimmerman from the WW after someone gave up on him.

My best trade would have to be Felix for Haren.

My best WW pickup:Shields..we run waivers on Sunday mornings with open wire the rest of the day after the run. He had just completed his 12K performance and I jumped on him.

Best Trade: Sent Bobby Jenks and Jason Giambi (just before his foot injury was known) for Ryan Howard (figuring the leg was behind his slump at the plate)

My best WW pickup: In my 3-year contract league: Mark Reynolds, so far, now playing SS in place of the slumping Bill Hall. In my redraft league: Tim Lincecum. Honorable mentions to Tom Gorzelanny and Matt Capps.

Best Trade: In my 3-year contract league, following Week 5: I traded Papi, Capps, and, as a throw-in, Alou (all 1's) for Haren (3), Fuentes (2), Snell (1), Matthews (2), and Figgins (3). This was before Capps was the closer, and that guy released Capps 2 weeks ago and lost out on claiming him because he was 1/2 point ahead of last as of last Sunday morning, and the last-place guy got him. I am now in 1st place by 15.5 points. Now that Figgy is finally playing like Figgy should, the results of the trade will fully be realized. Additionally, I can hold over Fuentes and Matthews for next year, and Snell through 2009.

Moral of the story: Don't ever say anyone is untouchable.
