Anyone else sick of these guys? They always tell all these "true" stories which I swear couldn't be anymore scripted and made up, or told to them by someone else and they're stealing it. Not only that, but when they talk about anything outside of their region, hardly at all do they know what they're talking about and are wrong most of the time. Just curious if anyone actually still likes these guys....? I can't stand them, especially Golic. He isn't nearly as dumb as they try to make him play himself off as, and I'm not even convinced Greeny is as smart as they make him come off as. Greeny is solid on SC, but I can't stand him on the radio in the morning.

I mean come on!!!! You played Football, you had to have a sports hero....That's sometimes the reason why you play sports...
I can stand to listen to them sometimes.....

I like Mike & Mike.
I hate sports talk radio in general, because homerism just blows ass.
But I don't listen to Mike & Mike all that much anyway, the morning is Stern time, and ESPN Radio has waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy too many commercials.

I haven't watched them in over 6 months because I got tired of "Jets this, Eagles that, my kids did something stupid/amazing last night."
I used to love listening to them in the morning before I left the house, but now I ignore ESPN for the most part in the AM (well really most of the day).

I thank god every day that I'm able to get a good feed for Carton and Boomer on WFAN every morning, even in NE Philly. Mike and Mike are pretty bad, but they can't hold a candle to the brutality that is Angelo Cataldi (WIP). This guy has the sports knowledge of a 12 year old girl, and yet his show is somehow the most popular on the station.
Sadly, it tells ALOT about the average Phily sports fan

They are a joke. They honestly don't know crap about sports. They don't give me any other perspective one something than I already didn't already have which is why I love Colin Cowherd. Mike & Mike are for the casual fans and nothing more.

Colin's voice is so freaking whiny that I seriously can't listen to him. All he does his complain, and I hate complainers so it drives me nuts. I can't stand him or listen to him. I like the local Chicago guys I listen to a lot, they're funny, knowledgeable, and give all the players crap unlike most reporters when they suck.
I'm glad to see most don't like M&M either, shocked we don't hear more complaining about those fakes.

I enjoyed them a few years ago on my way to school but they got taken off at some point so I stopped hearing them so no idea really.
I do enjoy the local Detroit station here usually. That is until all the red wing homers come on and say Datsyuk, Franzen, Hossa, Zetterberg, and Lidstrom are the top 5 players in the NHL.

I listen to about 30 minutes of Jim Rome on the way to work, not because I like him but because he usually has really good guests. I really can't stand any other part of his show when he talks about his blackberry and reads texts. Luckily I almost always turn it on when he's interviewing people. Also sometimes Jay Mohr hosts the show and those ones are actually pretty funny.
As for Mike and Mike, I don't listen to them but somtimes watch it on tv when I'm still awake. Not a big fan but don't dislike them either.

Mike & Mike are the worst. They are sports radio for women. But, Carton is so bad he almost drove me back to them. I wish Boomer would drop the dead weight. Can't listen to them, either because of fake man. And now, O&A is off terrestial radio! Ugh!
Funny thing is now I'm listenting to Imus, who while removed for the wrong reason, I was happy to have off WFAN, so they could put a sports show on. And they put Carton's ACT on. Even Boomer obviously hates him (how many more times is loser going to ask Boomer to have dinner, go to a game, etc. and Boomer make it blatantly obvious that he does those things without him knowing how badly he wants to do it?)
So, long story short. Sports radio in NY in the morning sucks right now.

I usually go between M&M and Steve Czaban (Fox) on my drive to work on XM....140 and 142 respectively. M&M does have too many commercials, no thier fault, but they do and "the Czab" is pretty myopic sometimes as in het it's my show, it's my point of view and you like it or lump it.

Its interesting to get a NY perspective on him, because I actually find Carton to be the least fake of most sports radio personalities out there. What you see is what you get with the guy. I've admired him since his early days in Philly (mid-90s) when he was just a part-time overnight host on WIP and tackled the sports stories that most of the main stream guys stayed away from. He reported a story on Eric Lindross faking an injury to go out clubbing which eventually got him fired and almost pummeled by Eric the Great himself! Of course, some of his act is schtick but I think he is genuinely chemically inbalanced.

You are right - maybe, fake is the wrong word. But he tries way too hard. It's like the uncool kid in school trying to be cool now that he's hanging out with the school's star QB. It's awful. And he really doesn't know sports.
Starts a whole "Get Brett Favre" thing then can't admit he was just plain wrong. And for Joba's last outing he makes a big deal about how he is going to suck and the papers will blast him and the Yankees about trying to be a Starter. He has a good outing and he says - well, I told you he'd be back page. Huh? I know all guys make predictions (my favorite Francesa skirts the issue all the time). But, the point is Francesa, etc. aren't trying so hard. Carton's just a douchebag that's trying to be part of the in crowd way too hard. If you like him, you can have him. I wish he'd go back to Philly. Would much prefer Carlin had stayed and been named Boomer's partner.
He's really the leader of the losers.

It's the Stern show in the morning for me. And then on my way home it's usually the Jason Ellis Show on Faction 28. (I'm talking about Sirius of course). The one sports talk guy that I do like is Scott Ferrall. That guy doesn't care who he pisses off he just says what he feels and I respect him for that.

I like Tony Bruno, Jim Rome, Bob Fitzgerald (works the afternoon shift here in the Bay Area, also the Warriors TV guy), Razor & Mr. T (Tom Tolbert and Ralph Barbieri), Dan Patrick.
Colin Cowherd is occasionally cool, but a lot of the times he's just whiny and overly-opinionated (if not flat-out wrong).
Still, it takes some nerve to say things like "the team that wins isn't always the best" and "rings aren't everything" because they're so often the prevailing wisdom.

i think carton was a jersey FM station and wasnt talking sports before he went to WFAN, but i remember back from his days here in Philly. He is just so full of himself.... mike and mike are ok, but only in moderation.... but i can't stand listening to Cataldi and his morning crew here in Philly(unless Joe Conklin is around impersonating Andy Reid or something)....
i'll often end up switching around the sports options or going with Michael Smirconish for politics/current events here in philly...
just thankful i don't have to listen to Howard Eskin on the drive home anymore....

Completely agree with the OP on despising Mike & Mike. Their schtick is beyond annoying and they have the most canned and predictable viewpoints imaginable. The fact that they bring in Dick Vitale every single week for a segment even when it's not basketball season tells you everything you need to know about who their target audience is.
Good call on whoever brought up the 2 Live Stews! Absolutely horrible. I love how they somehow parlayed their local coverage of the Michael Vick scandal into a full-time gig on ESPN.
I also disagree with those who are cracking on Steve Czaban. I think he's awesome! He will say things that I completely disagree with frequently but I dig his show nonetheless. He has The First Team on Fox in the mornings I believe and in the afternoons he hosts The Sports Reporters here in the DC/Baltimore area. The other guys he has with him on his shows are great too.
And also, Steve Czaban.....definitely NOT a Skip Bayless clone. Although he is VERY opinionated, I don't get the feeling that Czaban takes himself anywhere near as seriously as the Bayless's, Cowherd's, and Rome's of the sports media world.

Sorry malta, but I HATE Carton. I would also consider Carton a fake personality who has an act. It's like he's a sports version of a Howard Stern wannabe shock jock, or maybe a radio version of a net troll. If I am near a radio or a computer, I basically have WFAN on all the time. But I cannot listen to Carton. Therefore, I am PISSED that I cannot listen to WFAN from 6 AM to 10 AM, when Carton is on.
Sorry to drag up this old thread, but I was looking for any good options for morning sports radio. Obviously, Mike & Mike is not an option.
