Am I the only one that feels that Matt Schaub is going to be a top 5 qb this year. I know he is a injury risk, but he has a lot of potential with the weopons he has. He missed four games last year and was a top 20 qb. if he averaged 12 pts in those games he missed it would've put him in the top 8. I know if is a word that gets you in trouble. But if healthy i feel he can put up some monster numbers. I'm passing on Rodgers, who caried my team last year, to take schaub later on.

I think he is immensely overhyped. Moreso than Steven Jackson. If he was my QB1 I probably wouldn't be happy. He always finds a way to miss games.

And I think he is immensely under-hyped...Like the OP said, when healthy, those weapons, and Houston's zone blocking scheme really coming into it's own, he could be serious contender for top 5 rank placement by year's end. Schaub is never talked about when QBs are discussed from what I have seen, but on my fantasy team he carried my team most weeks. I'd draft him with confidence as my #1, but would make sure to have a capable back-up for that just in case he gets injured and reap the benefits of consistently solid performances week in and week out comparable to your league mate's QB who he drafted 3 or 4 rounds before Schaub.

Only if Schaub can stay healthy which he hasn't in all his years in the NFL. Even backing up Vick in Atlanta too. But if he can play all 16 games then yes he could be top 5 ish.

While I certainly agree that Schaub could be great, go ahead and compare the predictions for 2008 Schaub and 2009 Schaub. Both will say the exact same thing, along the line of: "If Schaub and WR Andre Johnson can stay healthy, this could be one of the most explosive combinations in the league. Schaub has the weapons to put up great fantasy stats, but has missed extensive time due to injuries in recent seasons."
So the question is... will history repeat itself? Or will Schaub finally break into that top notch fantasy QB?
(By the way, Schaub also missed extensive time in his senior year of college at UVa. This wasn't a fluke incident by Haynesworth's or Allen's hits. I would definitely say he is injury prone.

I won 2 championships last year with him as my QB. If he is slightly better and plays in more games than he was last year I'd roll with him again. He's solid, not spectacular, but he gets the job done.

Well, what is your definition of a fluke then? To me, its a one time occurrence. The last time he started more than 11 games in a season? His junior year in college.
Before that, you would have to go back to high school.
** In his two years in Houston, he has missed 1/3 of the season due to injury (both times!)
** His senior year in college, he partially separated his shoulder in the first game of the season.
How many more flukes before he is considered injury prone to you? (and by the way, I am a huge Matt Schaub fan and HAVE been following him since college. But clearly the guy gets hurt pretty frequently.)

listen, i agree he is injury prone, but last years injury (I Believe) are not bcz he is always injured...im saying that ANY QB that gets body slammed by Albert Haynesworth or got hit with a cheapshot by Jared Allen would have been hurt. His past had nothing to do with those injuries. Peyton, Big Ben, or Tavaris Jackson, any 3 of those woulda been injured by those 2 shots...So i agree he is inury prone, jsut last year he cuda played all 16 games but got hit with 2 terrible shots by players that woulda hurt any other QB...

I watched both of those games and Haynesworth (from what I remember) put a late hit on him and then completely squashed him by landing on top of him. It was like a pro wrestling move.

I don't think it was a cheap shot at all.
If you watch in the slow motion view his head was down and he was just diving for the legs, not knowing the ball wasn't there anymore... either way, yeah, most QB's get hurt there.

While I agree this hit was not in compliance with NFL rules I don't really see it as a cheap shot.
I think, in real time, that Allen was just working hard to make a play and this play just ended in an injury.
For me, a cheap shot is something done on purpose.
Use Warren Sapp and that guy from Green Bay as an example...
I'm not defending Allen, I just don't see this one as a cheap shot...

Jul 19 2009, 03:51 PM
thats fine that you guys dont think its a cheap shot...i can see both sides of the argument...with that video i was just trying to prove that that injury he suffered is an injury 31 of the 30 QBS in the NFL would also get hurt by (AKA ALL OF THEM)...if you c Fat Albert's body slam on Schaub too (can't find on youtube) then you would see that last years injuries were not do to schuabs history, rather some bad luck

Matt Schaub hit a woman in the head with a golf ball at a celebrity tournament Sunday.
The woman, Sally Capehart, was stationed 10 yards left of the par-3 17th green when Schaub's tee shot struck her directly on the top of the head. Capehart was "clearly in pain for several minutes," so Schaub autographed a ball for her and apologized. It's the same 17th hole at which Charles Barkley has repeatedly hit the scoreboard. Luckily for Schaub, the ball bounced off Capehart's head and onto the green. Schaub two-putted for par.
Hahaha good timing for our injury conversations...

IF Schaub stays healthy he will finish in the top 5 QB. THis is his contract year, if he gets hurt or does not perform the Texans will move on and not give him his roster bonus for next year. He has the weapons and talent to do it. I really do believe this will be the year he stays healthy and the Texans make the playoffs! I am grabbing Schaub in a lot of rds late as my backup QB. Schaub was my übersleeper last year and I had him on nearly all of my teams. Well, only Brees won me a championship, while Schaubs injuries cost me a lot of games. Heck, he even got a game cancelled by a hurricane so he brought me nothing but bad luck and a lot of headaches. This year he is on my "do not draft" list. Let someone else worry about him.

That's understandable, I've certainly felt that way about guys that have burned me. But unlike RBs where their bodies take a beating and the previous injuries can be a sign of bad things to come, Schaub's injuries last year aren't really relevant this year. You'd be doing yourself a disservice if he was available in your draft at great value and you passed up on him because of last year.

You cant assume a QB will get injured every season because he has been injured before...it's not like baseball when pitchers have continuing arm problems. Schaub WILL have a monster year this year and be near the top 5, but cracking the top 5 will be tough with the guys he would have to pass.

Since I did some early drafts & mocks where Schaub usually goes in rounds 5/6 ahead of guys like Cutler, Rivers or Ryan there is no danger of passing up great value. I actually changed my draft strategy this year and target a QB much earlier then the years before. Schaub has potential but he just simply cant stay on the field (same thing 2 years ago) so I feel much safer with a guy like Brees or Rodgers even if my RB corps gets weaker by drafting a QB early.
Feel free to draft him as your QB 1 just be aware of his "curse". A virus, a hurricane, golf balls... Im sure there are a lot more things out there that can keep this guy from playing.

I draft in an 8 team league and if Schaub is around between the 6-8 rounds I will probably pull the trigger on him. However, I expect I'll have a few bigger names from a fantasy perspective still available around that time frame. As others have said, if he can remain healthy he will be a solid fantasy QB.

I don't want to burn another middle pick on another viable QB but I may have no choice.
Schaub rolled his left ankle running out of bounds tonight and was taken out of the game after finishing the drive. It may turn out to be nothing as he played through the pain but he was clearly hurting

QBs seemed like it was always a position to not worry too much about...but this year was totally opposite..at least for me.
Everyone has been taking QBs early this year and after Rivers, just about all the QBs have legitimate questions and aren't worth the 4th-6th round picks that you need to pick them at.

schaub owners will somehow rationalize that the ankle/foot tweak was the fault of the stadium's superintendent not maintaining the sidelines correctly instead of blaming the glass chandelier also known as schaub's body... if i'm not mistaken, jared allen was on the field for the play so i guess he could be made the scapegoat again...
