Ok, so a few of you seem to share the same passion for quality food/dining that i do. Other than playing/watching sports, cooking and enjoying new foods/cultures is a favorite pasttime of mine. So i'm going to open a new thread dedicated to all the chefs and dishes on the Food Network, and any other topics regarding your dining experiences or recipes.
So whether it be Bobby Flay, Guy Fieri, Paula Deen (LOL), Your favorite cut of steak, How you grill, Italian, Mediterranean, just have at it..........

My wife and I are big fans of the Food Network. Shows like Next Food Network Star, Chopped, Iron Chef, Dinner:Impossible, Throwdown with Bobby Flay are just a few shows that we watch regularly. On a side note; I have quite the crush on Giada...
One of my favorite grilling recipies is what I like to call; Hawaiian Chicken.
I pound out the chicken into cutlet size. Layer pineapple, cheese and ham (yes, like the pizza). Roll and tie them (with thin rope that can take the flames of the grill). Then marinate them in a bowl, which contains a mixture of Honey Mustard (I like to make my own, but Paul Newmans dressing is great), Soy sauce and brown sugar. Give it a minimum of one hour. Then grill away, turning frequently and brushing it down with the excess marinade. I get requests to make this almost everytime we host a BBQ. You won't be dissapointed.

Maybe I haven't watched DDnD long enough, but I don't mind him at all. I think he's kind've funny. Although I didn't like him in the Fridays commercial, it could be just that DDnD is a great show and anyone on it I'll like.
DDnD is my favorite and has only furthered my love for opening a restaurant/diner in the future.

Ramsays' Kitchen Nightmares is still something I'll turn on from time to time, but the British version on BBC America. The American version on Fox seems like its missing something.

As a real cook in a real restaurant I NEVER watch Food Network unless I stumble onto a Good Eats or Dinner:Impossible episode which catches my interest. I am sick of looking at food after work so the last thing I want to do is look at more food on TV.
Top Chef though is something I will DVR and watch religiously.

The judges on that show can be weird.....I distinctly remember them allowing someone to move on after he served them food they
SAW HIM DROP ON THE FLOOR. I was shocked....to say the least.
The Kitchen Nightmares on BBC just seem more realistic. He certainly didn't give the UK restaurateurs the same financial assistance. Over there, he'd buy them some new linens, or a piece of kitchen equipment....over here, he's remodeling the entire place, front to back.
We aren't even bothering with Hell's Kitchen this summer. It's almost like The Real World....the first couple of seasons were enjoyable, but now it's gone way over the top.

Yeah, the one that really weirded me out was this "rock star" from a band I've never even heard of all tattooed up trying to act all elegant with the judges. This same episode they saw some chick like cement a fish onto a grill, turn into what looked like a smoothie, and then let her move on for really no reason at all. It's a great concept for a show, but you have to take the judges and the way they go about running it with a grain of salt.
Yeah, you're definitely right about that. I don't even bother with the American version for the exact reasons you said. I do like to see it when he gets heated though, and he seems much more genuine as a person with that show, especially in Britain, then he is on Hell Kitchen.
I gave the first episode a shot, and it was meh. Basically the same thing as the last few years "TUNE IN NEXT WEEK FOR THE MOST EXTREME EPISODE EVER AND SOMETHING NEVER DONE BEFORE THAT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND!!!!!" and then nothing happens as usual. Supposedly someone like grates the tip of their finger off which looks absolutely disgusting. Then they have like 9 firetrucks pull up with some ambulances but I'm sure that will turn out to be a challenge where they have to pretend they are like cooking in a roach coach or something.
Top Chef as someone mentioned is a really cool one that is very realistic. Richard Blais has had a handful of restaurants in my area (the one that was from Atlanta on the Chicago Top Chef). We also got a Top Chef cookbook recently which is pretty cool.

Unless I'm forgetting something, The Office is the
only British show that I can think of that has ever survived an American adaptation, at least over the last twenty years or so. Something always gets lost in the translation, and the new version quickly dies.
NBC couldn't do Coupling or Men Behaving Badly, ABC couldn't successfully do Life On Mars (the Absolutely Fabulous remake never got off the ground), and Fox has screwed up KN....and that's just off the top of my head.
I wouldn't be at all surprised to see this be the last season of HK, and KN shouldn't be far behind.

There were rumors that the previous season was going to be the last. On top of that, there were rumors that the winner of last season isn't even going to be the head chef, which they obviously are competing for

Does anyone watch the "Next Food Network Star"? Highly recommend that you check it out, although it's almost over.
It's one of the shows that i always DVR bc i'm hooked. If anyone does watch this, then give me your opinions on the remaining two finalists (Jeffrey and Melissa). Debbie got the boot last night, and i didn't lose any sleep over it. I was rooting for Jeffrey from the beginning and could actually watch him if he had a cooking show. Melissa is the houswife, and she's really been holding her own so don't mind seeing her in the final two.
Thoughts?

But I would like for one season that they not choose idiot candidates.
it would be great to watch true pros who are worthy of the opportunity to compete.
They've gone the dumbed down route - yes it's entertaining - but anyone who can cook must get really mad watching these clowns.

Just saw this segment on "The Best Thing I Ever Ate...." It's where the food network personalities vote on the best thing in a specific genre. The segment was finger foods, and someone brought up something called a

I'm in Leesburg, so I'll take 267 to 66/495 and scoop ya. We'll send the wives to the Tysons galleria and they wouldn't even know we're gone. We'll stop in Philly for a cheesesteak and a brew, then head north until we find an authentic Panzarotti. There's gotta be someone on here that has had one or lives in that area to tell me if they live up to this hype. I mean i'm a pizza fanatic and this is right up my alley.

Good point, the L.A. area has some of the best food in the United states (HANDS DOWN). I don't know if it's because it's so big or its so diverse in culture, but nowhere has the same food as far as i'm concerned. I used to live in Pasadena, and there is some great food options there.

Some noodle place in downtown/Koreatown known for spicy noodles and a burrito joint in East LA. I'd not heard of either place, but I don't own any gold so I'm not going to East LA for a burrito when there are just as good places all over West LA/Southbay, and if you're going to Koreatown you get Korean BBQ, not noodles.
The 'Dena definitely is a blessed place to eat food - it helps that they have a world-renowned culinary institute in the city limits so all those budding "students of the fork" can try out their art on the denizens.
EDIT: Here's where he went (from Wikipedia): "Adam travelled to Los Angeles, California, to take on the Goliath Manuel's Special and machaca burritos at El Tepeyac Café in East L.A., French dip sandwiches at Philippe the Original near Union Station, plus the "hot ramen challenge" at Orochon Ramen in Little Tokyo.[53] Any person who can finish the serving of Special No. 2, a spicy soup featuring 10 kinds of chilies, is awarded a place on the Wall of Bravery."
