Van der Sar was the 5th highest-scoring GK in the fantasy league last year; his points primarily come on Clean Sheet bonuses. He was asked to make about two saves per week, and only conceded Goals at a rate of 1 every other match.

The early-season schedule for United looks pretty manageable, even without him, but he would miss home matches with Arsenal and Man City, as well as a trip to Tottenham.

The well-regarded Ben Foster is the early favorite to take over, even though he barely played a full match's worth of minutes last season. He's also considered a strong candidate to take over as the GK for England.

Van der Sar is carying a 6.5 million price tag in the fantasy game, whereas Foster is valued at 5.0 million.
