Greg Oden had 11 points, four rebounds and two blocks on Sunday.
We erroneously reported that he double-doubled, and apologize for the mistake. Oden plays four games this week and looks like a solid option as a No. 2 center.
They left out the most important stat of the night!
He had 1 foul! One freaking foul!
Best stat line of the season for him IMO.

Those were some ticky tack fouls too. Gasol wasn't even going at him, he was going sideways and Oden just brushed up against him. I hate some of the fouls that Oden is getting. So lame.

I'm a Houston fan that used to watch every game and shameless is completely right, expect that for at least another year.
In Yao's first years, he was always on the bench half the games b/c he would always pick up stupid fouls.

The issue of course is that this is Oden's second year, but to me that is why I think he'll probably start to see a big improvement by the all star break.
It's good that McMillian seems dedicated to keeping Oden involved and Portland is looking pretty good, so there isn't going to be an uproar over him. Also, putting Miller in the starting lineup is going to do wonders for Oden.

Yeah.. some of it is him, but also he gets picked on pretty bad. I think he'll start getting the credit a little more often, I just don't know when. His per minute averages are scary.. if he could average 30 minutes he'd be nasty.

Oden's teammates are really good. So when he shows up and gives them inside scoring, defense, and rebounding, they're just a totally different team and they beat up people pretty bad. That's the thing with Oden, if he comes around he's going to give Portland exactly what they need.

He has a really slow side step on defense when I've watched him...and he thinks he doesn't. So when a guard attacks him in the lane...he tries to run up and then slide to the side with his slide step and his problem is he always leans his hip into the guard making it an easy blocking foul call all the time. Then he gets the occasional stupid foul and there you go. It's obvious he's still young and learning. If he ever corrected that....he's got such great length his blocks are so filthy. I'm just glad I'm seeing 8 rebounds in 16 minutes tonight. His rebounds have been down lately. I want 10 reb, and 2.5-3 blks per game by seasons end. I don't care what anything else is.

Like someone mentioned earlier, Oden has very slow legs. Whenever he has to guard someone faster, he side-steps with his hips out and get easily called for a blocking foul. That's what happen on the first foul as Ellis drive in the lane. Then the next play was an iso for Randolph on Oden and well, easy second foul.

That was me who described that....
Yea...just STOP HIP CHECKING ODEN...
Nobody expects you to stop a guard when he's penetrated past the defense. Your job is to stand your ground and just put your hands up and make it a difficult lay in by standing there. If he drives around you like he should...and gets an easy bucket...so be it. It's not worth it to hip check him and then have to leave the game...and we lose your defensive presence on all the other posessions.
How are these things ^^ not said to him during practices!! seriously!

He never had a track record shooting FT's in college cause he was shooting Left Handed with that injury he had. So this may be where his potential was with FT's....

The big boy had himself a game tonight!
Although it was a little bittersweet for me, being both a Bulls fan and an Oden owner. But he was a force tonight. They were looking for him on almost every play. And one thing I really liked to see, although it didnt necessarily translate on the boxscore, was his passing ability. They would dump it down to him, and much like Shaq does, he was waiting for a double team or just a help defender leaning towards him and then he was finding an open man and trying to set up his teammates. Not only will this skill usually turn into a couple assists, but it also forces defenders to try to anticipate that pass, or at least respect it, which will allow him a little more room to turn to the basket without being swarmed by defenders.
I know it was only one game, but he did some little things that showed he is moving in the right direction. Glad to see it.

I turned the game on in the second half and saw Oden posting up a Bull. I thought the bulls got caught up in a switch and had a guard on Oden, turns out it was Noah. Oden is so huge he makes a guy like Noah look like a 6'5 guard.
His only problem will be foul trouble. Once he gets passed that the sky is the limit.
