Jermichael Finley
Find a roster spot for this guy now. You will be glad you did. I am thinking with Aaron Rogers at the helm this guy could be a top 5 TE and possibly a top 3 TE. Scotty Dog

While he is a very high upside TE, top 3-5 is way too high. The Pack spread the ball around entirely too much for Finley to get enough chances to top the true top 5 TEs. Top 8-10 is his absolute ceiling this year, which is saying a lot for his talent considering he doesn't (and won't) even start for his own team. (b/c of his blocking)

Sounds like we have different opinions. Let's PUT IT ON THE BOARD! I say he ends up top 5 TE this year.

how can u quote mathew berry... hes terrible. absolutely terrible is more like it.
however i do agree with Finleys upside. he could be a sleeper this year but not enough to pass on one of the alrealy deep class of TE's this year in drafts. Hes more of a waiver wire pickup imo, as no one ever should draft two TE's in any league. start him during your te's bye week.

JFinley's actually improved his blocking big time this year. He worked hard this offseason to improve at it and so far in the preseason he's already done a pretty good job overall in that category. I do like him as a sleeper this season, but I think next year is when he breaks out. This year he'll probably split time with Lee, but next year I see him as the full time starter. His upside is tremendous and I recently drafted him in a dynasty league.

If you're reading Matthew Berry, that explains this post.

Finley is a great talent, but until he learns how to block and overtakes Donald Lee as the every down TE, he's not going to be on the field enough to be a top 10 TE, much less a top 5 TE. Plus, as others have said, he's going to be sharing targets with 4 very talented WRs. This post is probably a year early from the opportunity standpoint.

If your not drafting a TE and waiting till the last round to grab this guy, then you'll be searching the waiver wire by week 3 for a decent TE and playing matchups. This guy will have a few solid games and the rest will be nothing to count on in fantasy. Luckily for you guys this years TE's are very deep and you may be able to grab agood one off the waivers.

Packers are running a lot of 2 TE in the preaseason.
And they have a fine starting TE and 2 probowl caliber WRs. I don't suggest settling for less at TE than the Cooley/Olsen/Daniels tier.

He's not even the starter right now but yes the Packers will be running a lot of two TE sets. I do think he'll take over as the starter later in the year and could be top 5 next year and years after. But people banking on him this year, I think will be in for a big let down. I hope I'm wrong though, I just snagged him up in a dynasty league.

He and his brother are very much in the same boat. Incredibly athletic and gifted 2nd year TEs that are behind other starters at this time. Both are in good offenses, both have the attention of their OCs and are considered very viable threats. Both like to talk a little (although JMike didn't talk that much at Texas) and both will get some red zone looks. JMike has a better chance to overtake the incumbent starter because Witten may be the best TE in football, but I don't think either becomes a top 5 threat this year, certainly not in PPR formats, because of the lack of targets each will receive. However, both have the talent and QBs to get there soon, maybe by next year for Finley........

What are "facts" in fantasy football prognostication? Facts come in the regular season. We are all just BS'ing here. Though I do agree with the sentiment that he's making a not quite outlandish, but still quite aggressive claim that a Rotoworld 26th ranked, second year, third round draft pick, who is second on his team to an unimpressive TE will not only be better, but apparently push out Witten, Gates, Gonzalez or one of the other 8 players that could snag that spot. And, yes that is a heckofa run on sentence. That said, I won't blink if he's in the top 10.
edit: my bad he said top 5 and maybe top 3. Though I could be a top 5 TE and maybe top 3 in the nfl too. Reeeeally unlikely, but if there is some kind of mass extinction it could happen.

C'mon guys, let's not get off topic. There are a ton of "I hate (Fantasy Writer)" Threads on these boards.
At the same time I can't agree with your taste Rondre and I'm hardly a dull boy.
I don't think Matt is anywhere near as funny as he was when he wasn't the face of a megacorporation (and his analysis isn't as sharp as it once was either, IMO: He was funnier and stronger when he had the freedom afforded via running his own site, and I actually preferred his jokes when he worked at THIS site as well). But it's different strokes for different folks, and if folks want to be stroked by Matt Berry that's their business.
Jermichael Finley will NOT be Top 5 this year. I have agree with Pig: Next year, maybe. But my quick Top 5 TE are Gates, Gonzo, Witten, Clark and Greg Olsen. After that you have Visanthe Shiancoe (who I feel might crack the Top 5 if one of the top picks stumble) Owen Daniels, Chris Cooley and Kellen Winslow- all established TEs, a couple with new perspectives. Even John Carlson could surprise (or not depending upon how you feel about him).

I follow the packers religiously. I moved to Green Bay last year, parked my car at Lambeau, and walked outward in a spiral until I found an apartment. I can't even count the number of training camps I went to.
Finley is still 21 years old. I think NEXT season he will hopefully be a fantasy TE1, but I'd either not draft him or draft him last with very low expectations.

Yeah I live in WI and Finley was drafted WAY early in both of my drafts (with other Wisconsin people), I even drafted Kellen Winslow after him in one draft.
While it's well known that a lot of "homer" overvaluing goes on, it's pretty obvious to anyone watching Packers football that Finley is going to be heavily involved in the red zone offense.

The thing with the Packers red zone offense is that anyone and everyone could be heavily involved. They could throw a quick slant to Jennings or Driver, hand off to Grant or Kuhn or find Finley or Lee in the back of the endzone. They've done all of that so far this preseason. And anyone who watches the Packers knows that McCarthy likes to throw the ball on the goal line, which bodes well for Finley, but he's got lots of guys to compete with for the ball.
Like others have said, I don't see him cracking top 5 this year. Next year sure, but he's not there yet.

There are not enough balls to go around on the Packers to make this guy a top 5 TE. Grant, Jennings, Driver, and Lee all will take away touches. I don't want my starting TE splitting reps. Way too many good TEs this year to risk that!!

"Aaron Rodgers said Wednesday he thinks the Packers should let the backs and tight ends go out in routes instead of staying in to pass protect. The Packers often protected with six or seven men in Week 2, which took away the quick, underneath passing game. Rodgers thinks the Packers' struggling line should be left alone to protect, even without LT Chad Clifton (ankle). It won't happen. Rodgers has been sacked 10 times and taken 19 hits in two games. " I am in ESPN league which puts everyone on waivers week 2 week and since I allways dominate these noobs I am allways at the end of the waiver order because it's determined by league standings. So I need to act a week before a player POPS! I am feeling it for Jermichael this week, FEELING IT! I see a 100 yard 2TD performance ahead and I need to act!
