It all depends, on course, on how many minutes he can get in Nellie's rotation. However, it doesn't seem that a starting gig is impossible at this point. I'm watching him in preseason right now, and the kid has serious game. GS is a perfect place for him to have fantasy value if he can get consistent minutes.

I think the Warriors know they have a star on their hands here. It could be that Curry ends up with value this year.
rico381
Nellie has loved Curry since day one, and he says that Curry will start at least some games. This may or may not be influenced by Monta's complaints that the Warriors can't play defense with two small guards on the floor, but four starting spots are locked down (Monta, Jack, Randolph, Biedrins), and Nellie says that Curry and Buike will switch off taking the fifth starting spot, depending on who the opponent is. Curry will start against small teams, and Buike will start when the Warriors play against a bigger SG who they need Jack to guard instead.

I've got him as the first rookie on my draft board. The shooting hasn't been there at all in the preseason or summer league, but you have to think that for a scorer as good as he is, it'll come around soon enough. All the other tools are already in place for a great line, and I think he's surprised a lot of people with how good a passer he is.
Yell_42
I like Tyreke Evans for R.O.Y.
AmIregistered?
He could be valuable, as could Morrow, (and a couple other young Warriors) but situations like Golden State, New Jersey, Detroit etc... are a pain to deal with. Too much talent and not enough minutes to play them all.

I'll snap some of these guys up in my deep money league if they are still around late, but I know they won't be available. Young players with upside always go a round or two too early.

Nellie- Nellie and more Nellie

I will never ever draft a player on the Raiders in football nor a player on the Warriors in basketball- and I'm very wary of Dunleavy too.

It'll be all about playing time and therefore a total cluster F. But considering the weak rookie class- if Curry gets minutes I think he'll be the R.O.Y.

Question about keepers. Thanks.

And it starts.

Don Nelson indicated on Wednesday that C.J. Watson is in front of rookie Stephen Curry on the Warriors' depth chart.

NELLIE!!!!

I really wish Nellie wouldn't and won't play him and Ellis in the same backcourt that much. They are going to get totally abused defensively. If he gets the green light to shoot and it sounds like they will he'll have the minutes to put up numbers but I am skeptical about giving him free rein to jack up shots and minutes till he proves he can guard someone.
negrotiator
Tyreke Evans will be ROY. If not Tyreke, Blake Griffin.
Assasinn3
Blake Griffen without a doubt in my mind will be the Rookie of the Year. The dude is going to be a beast all around, except for his FT% - I'd expect something like 55% shooting and 14-16pts/8-10rbs/2asts/.5stls/.5blks. I'm still not sold of Tyreke this year, I think that he will be a Westbrook (low FG%, high TO) in his first season with stats like - 41% shooting and 15pts/4rbs/5asts/1.5stl. Both players should get plently of playing time, and there are other candidates like Jennings, and Curry that could make some noise, but it is definately going to be Griffen's to lose.
Thats Ridiculous
CJ Watson ahead of Curry?? Nellie, WTF are you doing??!! dipsh#t!

Link to this news would be nice... That said though, I can't say I'm surprised... It's Nellie with rookies we're talking about...

Everyone should just keep away from the PG situation in GS. Don't you guys remember last season, when he couldnt figure out who to start at PG because Monta was ruled out for the first 6 months or something? Nellie was hyping CJ Watson so much before the season started too. Then what happened? Marcus Williams, CJ Watson, DeMarcus Nelson, Jackson and even Belinelli played at the point. It was like freaking musical chairs. And that was WITHOUT Monta in the mix. Now Monta's back. Williams, Nelson and Belinelli might be gone but he's added Acie Law to the roster.

So forgive me if I don't believe Nellie when he hypes Curry so much in the preseason. There are TOO many guards in his team and the only sure thing is Monta. If you own Curry, you're in for a rough ride.

LOL, I remember picking up DeMarcus Nelson when he was named the starting PG by Nellie. That didn't turn out very well. Nellie might be just trying to motivate Curry, but he does seem to enjoy playing CJ for some reason.

I remember a lot of people running to grab Marcus Williams during the preseason because everyone thought "he's not in NJ anymore, and he's too good to be benched. He's got no competition in Golden State!". LoL. Even Stephen Jackson who isn't a true PG went ahead of him in the depth chart.

So really, there's no guarantee for Stephen Curry - even if Chris Paul himself is vouching for him. None of that means diddly squat to Don Nelson.

You Curry owners might want to read this article in the Contra Costa times:

don't drop him til you've seen him play in the first few games.
never trust any of this preseason hype or rumors or statlines. just wait til the real seaon starts in a week.
Nellie will probably change his mind about the lineup once again.
yoshi415
Its probably because Curry hasn't found his shot yet (he will) and GSW is playing CP3 tonight. Nelson likes CJ's D. It won't last for long.
Thats Ridiculous
keep in mind it's just a preseason game, but Curry put up a sick line tonite:

38 mins, 2 treys, 14 pts, 6 rebs, 10 asts, 6 stls. 6-13 FG shooting. but he also had 5 TOs.
that's almost a quadruple double.

he came off the bench.
Nellie said he likes the chemistry of Curry and Morrow together in the 2nd unit.
rico381
Watching the game, you could tell that training with CP3 has rubbed off on Curry, because he was just making some absolutely beautiful passes. He had a lightning-quick behind the back pass to a streaking Monta on the break, displayed strong court vision and basketball IQ throughout the game, especially on one instance when he was able to respond to a Hornets made FT with an immediate 80 foot heave to a wide-open CJ Watson under the hoop, and perhaps his most impressive play was a 70-foot bounce pass to a streaking Morrow for a layup, performed beautifully crisply with pinpoint accuracy. He's looking like the best passer of this draft class, no question.

Worth noting, in addition to his other gaudy stats: With Curry on the bench, the Warriors were outscored by seven. When he played, they were plus-41! Monta had worried about being able to play with Curry, but today the warriors were +34 when the pair of them shared the floor, and they played off each other wonderfully the whole night, taking turns making unbelievable assists. Of course, the assists they made to each other were perhaps the most fun to watch.

Ahh, if only it was a regular season game wink.gif
GreenGold74
I have to laugh at all the buzz and even my league jumping to add every Warrior available after last night. If Nelson doesn't play too mind games with this kid and just at least gives him a chance to prove he's not ready to be their starting PG Curry will be a fantastic rookie. We all know Nelson and his views of rookies so he'll be looking for almost any excuse to put CJ Watson out there and let the kid sit. If I was an owner of Curry I'd keep that in mind if he struggles from the field early in the season.
rico381
Don Nelson has already compared him to Steve Nash, who was only his favorite player he has ever coached. After this game, the RW main site added this tidbit:
QUOTE
All my concerns were answered, defense, toughness," Nelson said. "He struggled a little bit with his shot but he’s going to be a great shooter." That's high praise for the man from Davidson

Sure doesn't sound like Nellie's doing everything he can to keep Curry off the floor, and I think the point of keeping him in the second unit was simply to keep the second unit strong and give it some scorers as Maggette moves to starting rather than to give CJ any extra minutes, especially since he likes the way Curry and Morrow have played together.
GreenGold74
I really never bought into the "If a player doesn't start" he has no value in respects to fantasy. Anyone can clearly see, unlike the rookie bigs, that Curry is a prototypical rookie that he will fall in love with playing and molding. Even if CJ Watson starts some games early or throughout the season Curry will be on the floor I think at the end of games and get 25 minutes, if not more. I think sometimes we fall in love with youth as fans too much an have to remember the objective is to win games too. As talented as Curry is he's not yet ready to lead any team and should not be forced to take on too much responsiblity. Anyone watching tonights game can clearly see why they backed out of the Amare deal when Curry was forced to be part of the deal. What has surprised me is his defense and quality of passes so far. I didn't think he was that good and accomplished.
Thats Ridiculous
i'm getting more excited about this kid again.
the fact that him and Monta are actually getting along and playing awesome together is a good sign.
and i don't mind having Curry come off the bench. i totally understand Nellie's reasoning. and i do think Curry will still get more PT than Watson anyway.
also, it does seem more fair to Maggette. Maggette has been so patient his whole career wanting to be a starter. This should keep Maggette happy, and it's more fitting since Curry is just a rookie and more rightfully justified that he(Curry) come off the bench this year.
But i wouldn't be suprised if Curry eventually became the starting SG over Watson.
GreenGold74
Looks like Nelson has flipflopped yet again and already in midseason form. After his peformance against the Hornets "B" team he announced this morning that Curry is again back in the starting lineup and going to play the SG. I really hope the kid has a cool and mature head on his shoulders as they say cause Nelson is going to be messing with this kid's head all year.
Thats Ridiculous
god damn, the season hasn't even started yet and Nellie is already taking us on a rollercoaster ride.

i feel nauseous.
Code of Hammurabi
Glad I own ARan and Magette.

just saw on tv that curry is named starting PG by nellie after his 6/13, 10ast outing.
....
any believers of good production here?
Kobe_No_Means_No
Curry was on my radar but unfortunately I did not draft him yesterday. I think he'll easily surpass his ADP if given time to play since he shoots 3s and steals. Those of you who drafted him... good job!

nelly changes story game to game. he said cj watson was going to be the starting sg few days ago. his words are meaningless.

guess im going to avoid every GS except ellis and maybe biedrins
rico381
Did you guys honestly believe that CJ would play a larger role than Curry in the games that mattered? Maybe it's just because I'm watching the soap opera that is the Warriors every day, but I've gotten pretty good at knowing what's real and what isn't, and I always thought it was fairly clear that if Curry moves to the bench, the goal is not to improve the starters, it's to improve the bench. Curry is definitely going to play a larger role with more minutes for the Warriors than Watson is this year. I can understand getting frustrated trying to predict Nelson (imagine how opposing coaches feel), but if you can wade through the bulls**t and find the truth, I think the warriors can be a fantasy goldmine this year, just like they have been every year since Nellie returned.
Thats Ridiculous
It's legit.

Stephen Curry will start at point guard in the Warriors' opener, with Monta Ellis at SG, Stephen Jackson at SF, Corey Maggette at PF and Andris Biedrins at C.

When Curry's out, Ellis will play point guard, while C.J. Watson will back up both positions. Curry's stock is on the rise with the starting gig, but with Nellie pulling the strings, who knows how long it will last? Oct. 25 - 5:47 am et

So the question is: just how much value does Curry have this year? Where do you draft him? Is he going to produce in his first year, or will he be a project? I have no idea where to value him in the grand scheme of things.

I used my 9th round pick on Curry and I ended up dropping him just few days ago. I realized I just can't handle this Nellie roller coaster this year. While curry might have a big game one night, he might get benched the next. It's just going to be too hard to figure out on a weekly or even daily basis on what Nellie decides to do. I dropped Curry and picked up Drew Gooden. Figure Gooden is good for atleast 10/10/1stl. I might live to regret my decision, but I just can't see my self dealing with Don Nelson this year.

hmm... well honestly, i think this kid has a bright future.
being on a team such as the Warriors, will really allow him to not hold anything back.
he was a big time scorer in college, racked up plenty of assists, shot a lot of 3's, and stoled a lot of balls. he also had a lot of TOs too tho.
This year, I see him putting up lines like 17 pts, 5 assists, 3 rebs, 2 steals, 2 treys.
but he definintely has the ability to out-produce that. and he just might.
GreenGold74
Personally I'd like to see Anthony Morrow at the SG and Ellis at PG and Curry coming off the bench to start the season. Morrow deserves some reward for his hard work and frankly is the better player(right now). Given how volatile Nelson will be this year I expect 8 guys will be on the Nellie Merry Go Round. Anthony Randolph better damn well be their PF when he's over his nagging injuries. This is a year of development for the Warriors and given their putrid rebounding I'be seen so far he needs to be out there.

I think you'll pretty much get the boom or bust lines from Curry. If he's not hitting his shots early I can easily see Watson and Azubuike and Morrow replacing him fast. I'd still tread carefully with the kid because his leash will not be big to make mistakes and he could end up giving you some very empty lines.
rico381
I think dropping Curry for Gooden was a huge mistake. Even if he does have some good nights and some bad nights, they'll average out to a line that is definitely worth owning. And if even one or two of the warriors' top 8 guys get injured, you can be assured that Curry's in for a big night.

Obviously, almost all three-point shooters are going to be streaky, and they'll have some great nights and some bad ones, but what I love about Curry is his ability to put up good lines even when his shot isn't falling. Look at his summer league and the first half of his preseason: he didn't have a single game where he hit more than 30% of his shots, and yet he was still able to put up good lines by getting tons of steals and assists with perhaps a single three or some rebounds. Of course, on the nights his shot is falling, look out, because he can really fill up the stat sheet in every category you can hope to get from your point guards.
GreenGold74
Well we can speculate till our fingers fall off here but he and the Warriors are a total unknown till we see him in action. I don't feel he's a one dimensional shooter but its hard to expect the assists and steals to carry over in the regular season till I see it. I still feel Steven Jackson and Ellis are going to be handling the ball alot. I think he's going to start slow but as injuries happen and team priorities change you'll definitely want to own him in the 2nd half.

In preseason you can go 0/10 Field Goal and coach will still let you stay on the floor to get some asst and steals. But in regular season if you come out gunning 0-5 I'm pretty sure your going back to the bench. Preseason is very different from regular season.
Daviddm23
WOw! Great line tonight....i'm sure there's more to come.

7/12 - 7 ast - 4 stl - AND ONLY 2 TOs
Thats Ridiculous
i ain't mad at it.
mjk356
I really liked what I saw tonight. Tremendous quickness and passing ability, and obviously can shoot it from anywhere. He's going to be challenged defensively for sure, but he plays for the Warriors and they play no D anyway. He's going to have some down games when he goes against bigger guards, but he's got a lot of skills.
GreenGold74
No complaints from me. I don't know why Monta wasn't thrilled about Curry being in the backcourt with him as Ellis got some very easy baskets with his passing tonight. I think he won me over when I saw him give Maggette a look with his eyes rolling when he was tossing his 10th brick. He knows a cancer and idiot right away haha. He'll have his ups and downs but it looks like he's mostly going to be given a chance to develop. I wish he had the same attitude with Anthony Randolph..
bunshichi
He was sick last night, played under control and most importantly kept shooting with confidence even though he started 1/6. Hit all 6 of his shots in the 2nd half. He just needs to get accustomed to the speed of the NBA and he'll be a stud. Him and Randolph are going to be a staple in my keeper league team laugh.gif
Tarheels_2433
He looked very good...certainly didn't look like a rookie to me, great composure...sure he doesn't play much defense, but he will get his run and be extremely effective for fantasy purposes, and he hasn't even made any 3's yet...I especially liked that he was really pass-first the entire game...he could easily average 7+ assists this year in that offense
William Ayers
yea his court vision and passing ability surprised me
bunshichi
watching curry go up against nash tonight will be a treat
maximtsigalko
Hhahahah the most entertaining 2 teams matchup tonight GSW vs. Suns. I expect at least 15-10 from Curry against Nash and his awful defense.
