What do you think Jennings can do this season? His preseason shooting has been poor (30%), but for a 20 year old he seems to have an immense basketball IQ. I watched the Milwaukee vs. Minnesota game and he was just outright beasting with his passing ability. I think he has a lot of upside and could take the starting job outright from Ridnour. I'm think 10 pts/ 6 ast / 4 rebs is realistic with average percentages

What say you?
foolosophy
I think he's a guy who needs to play through his mistakes. Unfortunately, his coach likely doesn't share that same philosophy. Ridnour is Skilles' buddy at the PG (just ask Sessions), so best-case-scenario expect a timeshare. Jennings might come through as a steals specialist though.
nickalero99
I don't expect a lot from him this season. He has a lot of potential, but I doubt Skiles gives him a ton of minutes as a rookie.
bdams19
super drain on fg% and TO but he could be a steal late
tazdingo
I think he'll be worth owning much later in the season when he learn to fix his FG%...
negrotiator
i think his rookie season is gonna be a lot like tj ford's. maybe a couple more points.

The Bucks still haven't named a starting point guard heading into the regular season. Coach Scott Skiles says that he's going to wait one more preseason game before he decides between rookie Brandon Jennings and veteran Luke Ridnour.

"I'll wait until the last game is over for sure (before making a decision)," Skiles told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "That's a position that obviously changed in the preseason. At all our positions, we want to make sure we doing whatever it is we can to give our team the best chance to win on opening night and the next night and...

"Last year, the position changed because of injury. Luke was playing well and then he got hurt. Then Ramon (Sessions) came on and he played well so obviously nothing is written in stone. But whatever we do with our starters and our bench, our sole priority is to give our team the best chance to win."

Ridnour started the team's first five preseason games, but Jennings has started the last two.

I thought Jennings would be coming off of the bench this year because of Skiles' man love for Ridnour but from what I have read Jennings is impressing the coaching staff. He is 6th in the league (pre-season 25mins/game) in assists, 20th in steals. He is also 9th in TO's. While those are just pre-season numbers it may give a good barometer of his value.

I hope Jennings wins the starting gig now - it would at least make the Bucks worth watching for the first time in a while.

Here is a perspective on where Jennings is at from the NY Times. I think he will be a solid contributer in the seond half of the season:

Brandon Jennings, whom the Bucks picked 10th over all in the June draft, blazed a new trail to the N.B.A. He became the first high school athlete to bypass college to play one year of professional basketball overseas before entering the draft. He averaged 5.5 points, 2.3 assists and 17 minutes in 27 games with Lottomatica Virtus Roma, an experience he described as "humbling" after his star turn on the high school stage. Since then, more air has been let out of his ego. Jennings, 20, may be a second-year pro, but as an N.B.A. rookie he faces a steep learning curve. In his start against the Pistons, he played like a college underclassman among men. At 6 feet 1 inch and 169 pounds, Jennings was knocked off his game by the Pistons' starting point guard, Rodney Stuckey, who is 4 inches taller and nearly 40 pounds heavier, and bullied by Stuckey's backup, Will Bynum. He missed 7 of 9 shots and finished with three turnovers and five fouls in 27 minutes. It was the Bucks' final exhibition game before their season opener Friday at Philadelphia, and Jennings, a point guard who is competing against the seventh-year veteran Luke Ridnour for a starting spot, did not help his cause. 'This was not a great night for Brandon,' Bucks Coach Scott Skiles said, adding, 'But that's why you play these games, so he can get a further understanding of what it takes to excel at this level.' "

i think his value is greater in deep leagues where assists become scarce. it seems he'll start from the outset, which bodes well for his value later in the season. it's best not to count on him early in the season.
William Ayers
Scott Skiles has officially named Brandon Jennings the team's starting PG for opening night.

"I felt like both guys [Jennings and Luke Ridnour] played really well in the preseason in most of their minutes," Skiles said. "It's just my call...start him from opening night and see what happens. It will then depend on how he plays, how we play all those issues." Unless the rookie implodes, he should hold off Ridnour all season long.
poopdungbeatle
damn it! I knew i should've picked this kid instead of Marvin freakin williams..
gsw
I think he will struggle for the first few weeks, but then start to get it going later in the season. It usually takes rookie point guards some time to get accustomed to the speed and timing of a real NBA game.

so he's got the starting spot now..what y'all expect?

25ppg 12assist 3 steals 1 TO 51%fg and 91%ft for the season most likely cool.gif

I drafted Jennings, but I'm sure as soon as Ridnour's kneepads get back from the shop he'll be starting again, regardless of what Jennings does.

Hope he doesn't forget to pick up some Burt's Beeswax while he's out running errands.

In all seriousness, I see a line like this for Jennings in 2009-2010

10ppg-4rpg-6.4 apg-40%fgs-0.6 3ptm-75%fts-1.7 steals-3.1 tos

I think hes going to be a rondo type player, minus the robust fg% that Rajon obviously sports.

What advantage, if any, do you think he gets from playing in Italy vs. Arizona?
Is Euroleague more competitive than the PAC-10?
Code of Hammurabi
I havent the slightest clue. I dont think he played in the top flight italian league.

JetCityPersian
I think if he starts and plays 30+ minutes, he's 11pts, 6-7 assists, 1-2 steals, and about a three a game. The FG will be low.. 40% or less. The FT% should be 75-80%.

Useful stats for sure, given he's probably on waiver wires right now.

Arizona only plays 2 games per week, plus the team's practice time is limited by the NCAA. So Jennings should be more used to a pro-style schedule - practice times, travel, etc., - than most American rookies. Euroleague is a lot higher level of play than college.

I do agree that he picked up some valuable experience from the Euro-pro schedule and lifestyle, but I think Jennings would have been better off going to Arizona.

Aside from the fact the international game is much different, both in terms of style of play and how referees call the game, I really don't think his club team made it a priority to play Jennings.

I haven't read anything about his situation there, but his minutes were extremely low. Common sense tells us that his team knew he was there for only one year on his way to the NBA, so they had very little incentive to play and develop him aside from getting something for the salary they paid.

Obviously Jennings is ready for the NBA since he's starting on opening night, but I think he would be even more prepared and polished if he had gone to college.

I think as a bball player he would've benefited from playing at Arizona. As some one noted, he didn't play very many minutes in Italy.

On the flip side, it may have helped his big ego. Humbling him and hopefully, the argument goes, inspire him to work harder.

Also, financially, he got paid. Which he sighted as one of the main factors weighing in on his decision.

Nice! According to this he is starting tonight

Please play well yungin'

hello Brandon Jennings! smile.gif
Slone
I'm watching the game, he's looking pretty good. Should wrack up a good number of assists and he's got great defensive hands so I expect solid steals numbers.
JetCityPersian
He'll be up and down, but I agree that those stats should be there. He's got good upside for the 2nd half. We all know that Michael Redd is 50/50 bet to shut it down before playoffs.

Benched him too, for Chalmers. OH well, we got a steal.
TheBoondocks
I agree ^

He's gonna be a complete stud in a few years. I can see the potential in this kid right now. He has speed, agility, and the basketball IQ that is required to be a very good PG in the NBA

on my bench but lovin what i see.. i always luck out with rookies at the end of drafts
