I have both Brandon Rush and TJ Ford on my roster and both have been severely outplayed by Dahntay Jones. Is it time I make a switch or should I just remain patient? I just don't like the idea of adding someone who has never been fantasy relevant, but Jones is putting up solid numbers.
I don't know what the deal is with Ford and Rush.

You basically listed most of the players that make up the core of the Pacers main rotation - 6 guys - while implying that most Pacers players aren't worth rostering. Highly contradictory. You can say that any team's 7-10th men are worthless, because most teams don't have more than 4 or 5 impact fantasy players.
The Pacers played at one of the highest tempos in the NBA last season, leading to high-scoring games and ideal fantasy numbers for most of their players. They have been terrible this season due to a slow shooting start, but they basically have the same team as last year, along with Jones, who - surprise - has seen his offensive numbers surge significantly.
I also think Jones is a better scorer than he's shown in Denver, where he was always the 4th or 5th scoring option on the court and asked to be the primary defensive stopper. Even though he's a mediocre jump-shooter at best, he has always had a solid open-floor game and he's extremely athletic.
Jones is someone worth rostering in very deep leagues, but I agree that he's not going to be a valuable fantasy asset in 12-team leagues or shallower. I just think his time in Denver isn't completely indicative of what he's capable of or what he will produce in a different offensive system (with a different role) like Indiana.

I agree with Oriole. It is a new day and a new Dahntay.
The Pacers have 6 new players on the roster this season. I think part of Dahntay's success is because as a veteran he really isn't worried about his role or how he fits in. He just goes out and plays. While not as dynamic of a playmaker as Jarrett Jack, Jack was similar in that he just came in and played last year.
I think his numbers drop off when everyone is healthy and competing for minutes. However, he will still get decent minutes because of his defensive intensity and the fact that he doesn't try to be someone that he is not.

I haven't watched much Pacers this year, why is he getting so many TO? If he could just get them below 2.0, he'd make an excellent pickup.
As of now:
- should be a FA in 10 teams.
- borderline 12th man material in 12 teams.
- should be picked up in 14 teams.
assuming 9-cat scoring. If you play without TO, he's a definite add in 12 teams and borderline in 10.

I just grabbed him. Nice pickup. His minutes seem solid no matter what the line up and with the exception of his TO's his numbers are sweet for a FA. If when Dunleavy gets back I can see it being the end for Jones, but I'll glad ride him for a while.

Frye averaged 4.2 pts at age 25. That's a lot more relevant than what he did as a rookie. Turkoglu and Dunleavy also regressed before breaking out.
Your Gerald Wallace number is
after he got to Charlotte. Reading comprehension please. "
in Sacramento, so was Gerald Wallace." Your Boris Diaw number is
after he got to Phoenix. Strange how changing locations works sometimes, huh?
Did you know John Salmons didn't average 10+ ppg until age 28? Rafer Alston wasn't fantasy relevant until age 27, Darrell Armstrong until age 30. What a bunch of failed garbage scrubs for fantasy, right? At age 30, Mike James beat his career best by 8 ppg. Mark Blount was useless until age 28, so was Erick Dampier in 6 of his 7 seasons before age 28.
For fantasy I don't care how good a real-life player a guy is or what road he took to this point, and unless it's a keeper league I don't care about his long term potential. I care about what kind of numbers a guy can put up now. If I can catch a Bobby Simmons during that one good year, I want to. If that year comes at age 23 or 29 or 39 or 99, who cares? But hey, if you want to write off guys based on age, feel free. Never mind that 29 is smack dab in an NBA player's prime, it's that kind of thinking that let me get Steve Nash in multiple drafts this year.
Who cares who had potential coming out of college? This isn't the NBA draft. People thought Michael Olowokandi and Shawn Bradley had potential coming out of college, and Gilbert Arenas and Michael Redd didn't. Wake me when what a guy did in college makes a lick of difference in Fantasy
NBA. Dahntay Jones was a 1st round pick anyways - #20 overall in the 2003 draft. That's higher than Josh Howard was drafted, or Leandro Barbosa, Boris Diaw, Travis Outlaw, or Mo Williams - and that's just in 2003.

Another pretty good night from Jones.
More importantly, Rush is still struggling. Jones is easily better than him on D, and its looking like he's bettering him on offense too. Rush was 2 for 10 with -4 today...
and, in terms of real life, the Pacers have been winning lately.
When Murphy comes back, I wouldnt be surprised Jones still getting a bulk of playing time, and maybe even starting at 2

yep. Id go as far as to say tonight's game wasn't merely solid but actually a great line from him and if it wasnt for 5 TOs it would be absolutely sick.
25 pts on 60% shooting, 6 FTMs at 83%, 6 boards, 3 dimes, 2 3s, 2 steals, 2 blks

The operative phrase there is "when everybody comes back healthy" which I think is impossible in Indiana. I just realized that Indiana might be the most injury plagued team in the association. T. JON averaged 67 games a season during his 7 full years in IND, 5 times he played 69+. Not great, but hardly some horrific number.
Peja played 40 games in half a season for IND, and 71 games total that year.
Tinsley's injury-prone, but last year he was healthy and IND didn't even want him.
Clippers, by mid-November:
- Kareem Rush torn ACL, out for the year
- Blake Griffin broken knee, out 2 months
- Eric Gordon strained groin, out 2 weeks
- Marcus Camby strained back, out ______
Baron and Kaman haven't even gotten hurt yet, and you know those are probably upcoming.
Last year the Clippers had
17 different starters. NBA teams can only carry 15 players at a time. Even guys they were pulling in off the street were getting hurt. Eric Gordon was the
only Clipper to play in 72+ games, and only 3 players played 70+.

Hilarious. An argument about which team's trainers stink more, the Pacer's or the Clippers.
I like Jones a lot and he's playing well enough that he should keep his burn until both Dunleavy and Murphy are healthy which as others have referenced, could be a while.
He'll cool off a bit as the Scouts start to understand him better, but he's got plenty of room to fall and still maintain good value.

I dunno about the Pacers but the Clippers are cursed, not a trainer issue.
Anyways back to Dahntay. He was out-PT'ing Rush before Murphy got hurt, I don't see why he shouldn't do the same when Murphy gets back. Rush is a good defender, but right now Jones is probably still a better one. He also brings some Bowen-esque nasty toughness that Indy's been missing since Artest. Granger is tough too, but not as nasty as Dahntay.
