In my league (pretty normal rules including 6 pts for a TD pass), I suspect there could be an early mini-run on QB's (2nd or 3rd round) based on what happened in last year's draft. If this does occur, should I take part in it and ensure I get a top 5 QB? Or should I let the run go and load up on other position players? I'm thinking I could wait until rounds 6-8 and grab someone like Kitna or Romo, and be in a pretty good spot.

Let it go. Stock up on the rb/wr parts of your team & grab a Rivers or Kitna to slide in at QB.

You're probably right. My only concern is that I KNOW the top 5 QBs will put up great numbers. I'm not 100% certain about Rivers, Romo, or Kitna. Maybe the difference in getting a second round RB or a 3rd Rd. WR will make up for it.

In a redraft league target Kitna along with a young QB later on like Leinart, Cutler, or Rivers. Thats my plan at least.

Depends on all the scoring. In one of my leagues last year, settings were:
Passing Yards (25 yards per point)
Passing Touchdowns (6)
Interceptions (-2)
Rushing Yards (10 yards per point)
Rushing Touchdowns (6)
Reception Yards (10 yards per point)
Reception Touchdowns (6)
Return Touchdowns (6)
2-Point Conversions (2)
Fumbles (-0.5)
Fumbles Lost (-2)
The top 10 for final total points were:
1 - LT
2 - P. Manning
3 - LJ
4 - SJax
5 - Brees
6 - Bulger
7 - Vick
8 - Palmer
9 - Gore
10 - Brady
We are using the same settings this year, and I am seriously considering RB/QB combo as my first 2 picks.

Don't bother. Load up on RB's and WR's and select 2 QB's later in, the first being a sure thing (A Hasselbeck, Kitna, ect) and the second being a Young guy with Top 5 Upside (Cutler, Leinart, ect.)

I think I would disagree with the earlier posts, especially for this scoring system. A top five QB really separates himself and they can win you a couple of weeks almost by themselves. Peyton, Carson, McNabb, Bulger and Brady are far better than any other QB. I would make sure I had one of them and then you don't have to draft a backup for a while and still wind up with Big Ben or someone like that. You can still get a top QB instead of taking a flier on Norwood, Jones, or someone like that. In the later rounds you should be able to get someone like L. White, B. Jackson, V. Morency, C. Taylor, F. Taylor, W. Dunn, maybe L. Jordan I'm not sure if he'll fall that late while those guys are snapping up all kinds of QBs because they don't have a true starter. They will be using two draft picks in those rounds to try and solidify that position. F. Taylor still will be good for about 15 carries a game and Dunn is too good of a player not to be given at least half the snaps. Also their are great fliers late like L. Betts, R. Dayne, M. Bell. There are also a couple of good WRs that have some upside that should be available around then as well. I would much rather grab a couple of WR3's with potential than trying to find my starting QB in those rounds. You have all kinds of guys to choose from and some will break out, hopefully you can find one of them. They range from steady vets like Bruce, Chambers, Stallworth, D. Jackson and Glenn to promising stars in V. Jackson, M. Clayton, Berrian, Holmes, Jennings, Marshall plus you have some guys who have been in the league and are going to finally get their chance to prove they are starters like Curtis, Curry, Hackett. They way I look at it is do I want a McNabb and Curtis or do I want a Cutler and D. Driver. I would take McNabb and Curtis in a heartbeat over Cutler and Driver.

you never want to get caught up in a run. if you arent the one starting the run, you are more likely to get someone you dont really want than you are to get someone you actually want. start the run or run away.

Last year I was the wild card team in a CBS 12 team league. I won the championship because I had Peyton when he had 2 great games at the end. I didn't have him in any other league and didn't win, so my vote goes for getting a good QB. But....it could backfire. If you knew for sure, everybody would do it.
