Does this guy make anyone else want to beat their skull against a thick glass window like a psychopath?

(He's appearing on the today show today and I'm hungover...nough said)

I saw the Michael Kay show where he interviewed the guy from The Sopranos who is in the band that plays with Bruce. I thought that was interesting a bit.

He's the devil... biggrin.gif ... j/k

Don't get me wrong. He has written some excellent songs in his day. On the flipside, he's also wrote some very poor songs. I think he was performing most of the poor ones with his E Street band today.

Let me describe it this way. If Jack Johnson had ten times the legions of DMB fans, I would find it almost as mindnumbing. I'm not comparing Bruce to Jack Johnson by any means...that's just cruel. I'm more or less saying that I would most likely turn down tickets to one of his shows, because his fan base would annoy me severely.

People grant Bob Dylan this much respect and maybe more, but Bob Dylan deserves to be granted that amount of respect. Not Bruce Springsteen.

I think I'll go listen to the new Rascal Flatts, now. My ears have not bled enough today. rolleyes.gif

He's a polarizing figure, ain't he? I moved to NJ last year and honestly never really listened to him much other than some radio songs. He's................ok as far as I'm concerned. I don't like many of his songs. What I do like is the E Street Band. They're all very talented musicians. And J-Pug, you are thinking of Steve Van Zandt who plays "Sylvio" or "Syl" as he's commonly referred to on the show. He eventually becomes Tony's consiglerie (sp.?).

Anyway, there are a few mroe songs I like and appreciate and from what I'm told by fans of his in the area is that he (at least, used to) put on a great show. He's an entertainer and stormed around the stage with everlasting energy and really worked the crowd. He does write a majority of the songs, lyrics and music for his band as well--which in my mind takes an immense load of talent.

If I were given tickets, I would certainly go see him and his band. The GF is a HUGE fan and has (forced) had me listen to many of his songs. My own opinion is that many of the songs sound simlar and his voice is like Dylan's and Dave Matthews--either you like it and appreciate it or it completely turns you off from the band's music.

For those interested in hearing a couple of songs by Springsteen that are not "radio" songs that are good:

Born to Run (sort of a radio song but I never hear it much)
Spirit in the Night (sounds like Van Morrison's "Moondance")
Jungleland
Thunder Road

Anyway, my final verdict is..........meh. If there's nothing else on, I'll leave it on.

EDIT: Oh and by the way, the E Street Band's drummer is someone you all probably already know, Max Weinberg of the "Max Weinberg 7" from Conan O'Brien.

To say you don't like the Boss is blasphemy in itself, however, to compare him to either Dave Mathews or Van Morison is an unforgivable sin. I can't open any more music threads around here.

I hope you realize I only compared the 'take it or leave it' tonality of his voice to Dave Matthews's voice and if you don't see the similarity between Van Morrison's "MoonDance" and Springsteens's "Spirit of the Night" you must be listening to both with earplugs.

i totally dig Bruce. most likely because my old man is a huge fan and listened to alot of his stuff growing up.

I was being tongue-in-cheek but let's see what those have in common: Jazzy beat, Horns, similar lyrical delivery. Yeah I guess they are alike. Except that The Boss is GOD and Van Morrison is a fat cheeseball!!!

But I was born in Jersey, so my opinion may be slanted.

Sorry, my sarcasm radar was turned to OFF, I think.

"Born in Jersey" says all. It's like Aerosmith where I'm from originally.

The first version of Spirit of the Night I heard/saw was on my GF's Live at Barcelona DVD. Springsteen comes out and plays it solo and messes it up, laughs it off and still plays it well after. The crowd handled the backup vocals for the chorus and I still get chills thinking about it. I was actually disappointed when I heard the studio version in comparison.
