Just by skimming over some of my older movies you should check out if you havn't seen them are, Platoon,One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Dog Day Afternoon, Chinatown, and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly which is considered to be one of the best directed movies ever. Of course not everyone has the same taste in films, but these are pretty much all classics and i've never really heard anyone say they weren't great movies.

A lot of good dramas here, but where are the comedies? I like The Godfather 1 and 2, Blade Runner,The Usual Suspects, Forrest Gump, The Natural, etc. But sometimes a good comedy like Wedding Crashers,Dodgeball ,Old School, A Fish Called Wanda, etc. really hits the spot. Not the most intellectually challenging movies, but great entertainment! Vince Vaughn is the King!

great acting, cinematography, script, score. perfectly executed dark comedy. only way i cant see anybody getting this movie is if you dont get the cynical, dark humor and cant relate to any of the following: dysfunction, existentialism, shallow consumerism, and alienation.
maybe deep inside you're offended by its satirical view of the typical suburban, american family with skeletons in their closets.

9. V For Vendetta
Voilą! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.

Training Day
Army of Darkness
I can't put them in order, it's just too hard, but here is a list of some of my favorite movies that I can come up with off the top of my head. A few of them aren't exactly Cinematic Masterpeices but more of just personal favorites.

With a couple exceptions (you'll recognize them) I'll avoid listing the movies that I think are the greatest movies and also are among my favorite movies (like Godfather II, Sunset Boulevard).
Some of mine have been mentioned. Very cool. /I'll try to cover those that haven't been.
In no particular order, numbered only for reference:
1. Used Cars - A better Robert Zemeckis fable than "Forrest Gump"
2. Midnight Run - DeNiro and Grodin should have made more films; NOT to be confused with "Midnight Express". This movie has everything except a love interest. Good.
3. The Wicker Man (1973) - Some b*tch about the music. WTF? Should they have been grooving to funk on Summerisle?
4. Black Christmas (1974) - The effect of this film has been watered down over the years by the proliferation of inferior imitations (like "Halloween"). But for better and mostly worse, this started "it" all.
5. Frenzy- Hitchcock's underrated penultimate film.
6. Phantom of the Paradise- With its early days of movies melodrama (and the overacting that goes with it) segments, homage to comicbooks and sly references to Hitchcock, Led Zep and The Alice Cooper Group this "Faust/Phantom of the Opera" send-up is not for everyone. But Paul Williams great pop score (with musical nods- chord progressions and lyrical references- to the aforementioned 70s' acts), DePalma's always expert pacing, the (decidedly 70s') humor and the story-line will suck you in if you let it. If you don't let it, then it will just suck.
7. Robocop- Fast paced clever stuff. Classic last scene.
8. Monty Python's Life of Brian- This movie is f*cking brilliant. Makes "Dogma" look like "Dogsh*t" (which I think it looks regardless; an overrated piece of crap and still Kevin Smith's worst movie).
9. Taxi Driver
10. The Magic Christian- This scatological retelling- and nationality altering- of Terry Southern's classic novel is not for everyone. It's inconsistent, infallibly British and features Ringo Starr in a lead role. But there are parts of this movie that will have lovers of irreverent humor tearing. Watch for an honour roll of Britain's funniest. And for Yul Brynner. And Raquel Welch. And....
11. Bedazzled (1967) - Not sure what the hell they were thinking 8 years ago, but 40 years ago there was a nifty little movie about an unassuming devil conning one poor trusting depressive schmuck. Sweet flick. If you saw the Hurley/Fraser abomination you owe it to the makers to see the original.
12. Harold and Maude- Hal Ashby's beautiful fable on love, death and life- not necessarily in that order.
13. Being There- Another Ashby fable. His last great film was also Peter Seller's last great film.
14. Tommy- Ken Russell's adaption of The Who's groundbreaking work is uneven like nearly all Ken Russell movies. But enough works and seeing the talent involved is amazing. I want Ann-Margaret to be my mom. YES- Even now.
15. Silent Running- Bruce Dern's outer space refugee thinks green, sees red.
16. Woodstock- Some prefer "The Last Waltz" or some lame Dead concert film (sorry Deadheads- you had to be there, dropping a good deal of Window Pane helped too). I'll take this time capsule filled with awesome performances and snap-shots, expertly edited with bursts of unexpected humor. ("What's it called?" "Port-a-san." "Cool.")
17. Five Easy Pieces- Saw this in 1975 for 50 cents (yeah- I'm old) on a double-bill with "The Last Detail" I think it was. (I know for sure I saw "Detail" on a double at the same place with "Cinderella Liberty".) I had recently begun expanding my writing in many directions. But my jaw dropped as I sat transfixed with a movie that seemed to have no linear narrative only character study. Of course the whole point unfolds in the movie's last 15 minutes. See it if for no other reason than to witness where Juliette Lewis ripped off every expression for her "fringe girl" persona from Karen Black.
18. MASH- I like his treatment of "The Long Goodbye", especially the clever final line. And "Nashville" is a classic. But this basically "sketch movie" is still my favorite Altman movie.
19. Chinatown- One. Of. The. Greatest. Movies. Ever. Made. "LA Confidential" wants to be "Chinatown" when it grows up.
20. Jaws- Quint's monologue is still the best scene in any Spielberg flick.
21. This Is Spinal Tap- I know these guys. I bet you do too.
22. The Fly (1986)- Great tragic horror story. As much as I dig his other work this is still my favorite David Cronenberg film.
23. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation- Depending upon which one it is, my girlfriend or buddies will say "That's you" in reference to Clark's scenes.
24. A Clockwork Orange- Because of the behavior it inspired in idiots and the subculture it birthed Anthony Burgess wished he had never written the book. I'm glad he did. Kubrik's color schematic (black/white/red) and modern art feel never worked so right. If this movie fails to shock you then you likely have become desensitized by mediocre grindhouse fare.
25. The Little Girl Who Lived Down The Lane- The human world is full of all different types of predators, with myriad motivations and of any shape or size.
OTHERS- Holy Grail; Star Wars (1977); Empire Strikes Back; Blade Runner; Die Hard; Terminator 2; The Warriors; The Driver; Slaughterhouse 5; American Graffiti; Dr Strangelove; 2001...
