ESPN just said he went down. Anyone know what happened? I am so sick of injuries. My team is in 1st, but my guys are dropping like flies.
Kirghiz
He was in the game at 6:29 in the second and they are now at 5:34 in the second. If he's hurt it must have JUST happened.
SundayKindofLove
He's playing right now.
Taipan
Dude must be hurt because he hasn't played all fourth quarter.

Caron Butler re-injures hip

Kirghiz
The Wizards play three of the next five nights starting tomorrow, so Butler could conceivably miss two or three games without much trouble. Blatche looks like a better pickup this time than he did last time.

damn...this is so bad...
auburnu008
Great....my 2 best players will be out for who knows how long. I can see Garnett and Butler struggling with these injuries all season.
Irish
Looks like he re-aggravated his hip.

That's not good.....re-aggravations tend to come in groups....
dada76
Anyone knows if Butler is playing next week. He didn't play the all star so I am guessing he is still out another week or atleast few more games. What are other owners doing in the weekly lineup format
Kirghiz
I'm expecting Butler to be back after the break with no issues. He was day to day prior to the break, so I think he just skipped the ASG for extra rest.

I expect him back after the break, but I don't expect no issues.
BigH
Risky play in weekly leagues but I guess you'll have to play him and hope for the best.

Butler out again..this is so depressing...

Butler out again..this is so depressing...

No joke, especially after he looked "great" in practice Monday
Kirghiz
The Wizards don't play again until Friday. They are probably just getting him another three days of rest at the expense of one game against the Knicks who they should beat anyway.
CrockPot
depressing it is. take a look at my squad, and tell me who HASN'T been injured in the last 8 weeks.
dada76
...and I thought I pulled a fast one by trading Carmelo for Butler
MNDOGG
what is the deal with a hip flexor strain anyways? I mean is this like a plantar fascitis lingering thing? or is this just like a bad ankle sprain that just takes a bit more time to get over? what is going on with this??? is there a doctor in the house? Did anyone stay at a Holiday Inn last night?? This Butler owner is very close to full panic mode...
rotoking07
More disappointing news on Butler today. Rotoworld:

Caron Butler didn't practice on Wednesday due to his strained hip flexor and is not likely to play in Friday's game against the Cavaliers.
"We want to see him through a practice and see how he reacts after a practice," Jordan said. "So, that's going to be a two-day process." We're guessing there's no way he's playing tomorrow and he sounds doubtful for Saturday since there won't be a practice opportunity. Maybe he'll play Monday at New Orleans, which is about all his owners can hope for at this point. Antonio Daniels (ankle) and DeShawn Stevenson (knee) also missed practice, but are expected to play through their injuries. Feb. 21 - 1:58 pm et

uuuggghhh!!!!!!!!!!! Butler is ruining my season ...
BigH
Caron Butler will miss his eighth straight game on Saturday with a left hip flexor. There is no date for his return, and he could still be out for a significant amount of time.
"No long-range plan right now," coach Eddie Jordan said. "He’s not ready to practice. We may even cut back on some of his extraneous rehabbing—maybe calm him down a little more." The fact that he can't even practice without pain is a bad sign, and if Andray Blatche is still available in your league, think about adding him until we get some positive news on Butler's condition.- RW

Is it officially time to panic about Butler?
dada76
Bad news just keep rolling....Maybe he should be renamed from Tough Juice to Tough Sh#$
Kirghiz
Just find yourselves a capable fill-in for him (Blatche is the handcuff) and just bench him until he returns. Think of him as you would Arenas or Brand. Chances are you are all but in your playoffs because of Butler, and chances are that he will return in time for your playoffs and help your team win. Washington is not in a position where they can let Butler get extra rest for the playoff run because they need every win they can get. When he is ready he will return and he will play hard.
LionsPride
any chance the hip injury lingers long enough for Blatche to be ownable into late March? supposedly, Butler's out for a couple more games.
BigH
Late March is a bit of a stretch but with the uncertainty surrounding Butler, I wouldn't be shocked. Blatche will be worth holding on to even a few games after Butler returns because of the chance of re-aggravating the injury yet again.
Timmah!
I drafted Blatche in my dynasty league, and haven't been able not to notice the difference in production during this current starting stint, as opposed to the last. Pretty much all of his numbers are down, and the inconsistency isn't cool.

If he could pick it up, and really take advantage of this, then I think it would be a good sign for the future, particularly if Jamison leaves town. I'd like to think that Blatche can step into the starting PF gig, but it's hard to picture when his production rides the roller coaster.

I can see him holding value for another week or so, but beyond that....he'll need help.

This just posted and doesn't look so good for Butler owners:

"The Wizards announced on Wednesday that injured forward Caron Butler has a small labral tear of his left hip joint.

Butler, who has missed 10 straight games, won't play on Friday or Sunday and will be re-evaluated next week. Since he's not on the trip with the team, details on his recovery procedure and a return date are as sketchy as ever. But for now, go ahead and plan on benching Butler again next week. It remains to be seen if the injury was made even worse when he returned for two games after suffering the original injury, but it sounds likely."

yeah...boy, can't say i'm happy about that. though maybe they'll finally at least have some sort of timetable so i can know whether i should just cut him loose already and grab hughes. very disappointing.
777
man...hopefully he'll be back in a couple weeks...I should have just held onto iguodala :/
jtbennett
Man, this is getting ridiculous. I had the last pick in the 1st round, took Gilbert. 1st pick in second, thought I had a steal with Yao. Got Big Al (he's still healthy at least) with last pick in the 3rd. And with the first pick of round four...Yep, Caron Butler!

OK, so I understand I was gambling a bit with Arenas and Yao but now to lose Caron for who knows how much longer, brutal. Hopefully they'll give us a time-table soon so I can figure out what to do going forward. I'm in 2nd place but with all these injuries I don't know if I can hold it for long.

Blatche was dropped yesterday in my league. I have the fourth position in waivers, so hopefully definite info comes out soon to see if I should use that claim.
Taipan
Because my H2H life in the playoffs is dependent on Butler...I took the initiative to do more research and it doesn't look so great. Scary result? Butler might be done for year.

"The function of the labrum is to add stability and cushioning to the hip joint. It’s the cartilage found around the bony rim of the hip socket, acetabulum. Degenerative labral tears can be associated with arthritis or occur from years of repetitive minor injuries to the hip. Oftentimes, those playing sports may tear their labrum by causing rapid hip motion through sudden stops and turns on the field. A labral tear causes pain in the groin area, or a “catching” sensation within the joint, but usually doesn’t result in pain during normal daily activities. If you believe you have a labral tear, see your physician immediately for individualized treatment.

In most cases labral tears require surgical repair. However, your orthopaedic surgeon may initially prescribe physical therapy and activity modifications along with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen and ketoprofen.

Arthroscopic surgery may be necessary to repair the torn labrum if symptoms persist and you cannot continue your desired physical activities. This arthroscopic surgery is done on an outpatient basis. Full recovery usually occurs in eight to 12 weeks."

OMFG....well I guess the best news would be a set time table of any sort...in the mean time I went out and got Blatche
th2w0
Wow! Losing Caron is worse than losing someone like Yao...We are talking about a player with top 5 fantasy stats here. This sucks.

Yao is arguably the best center in fantasy basket-ball. Losing Butler would be the same as losing him, and not worse. I hate life sad.gif

You make a good point. The frustrating thing is "Tough Juice" is not supposed to be an injury risk type player.....
7331T
It's about the same as losing Yao I think.

Caron gives you a rare 2.4 steals a game as well as a very nice bonus of 4.5 apg and 6-7 rpg with 21 ppg and very good percentages of 47-8 percent. Also, add in his phenomenal FT % and 1-2 3s a game and he's one of those guys who gives you a rare combination of loads of plus stats.

For Yao, he gives you points, boards, and the nice 2 blocks a game but the great kicker is the FT % and his usually good FG %.

I think Caron and Yao are pretty even, but if you had to pick, I'd go with Caron because he does more.
Big E
well I just sent him and barbosa to a guy who is 20 games out of the playoffs but wants to win 7th place so I don't feel really bad about this news, not like he was fighting for the playoffs. Was able to get carter back and got bibby too in the deal.
me likey

sucks for butler though
rotoking07
so what kind of timetable should we expect now for his return?
777
status unknown? the article mentions that he will be re-evaluated next week....perhaps the injury is minor enough that it will self heal in time for fantasy PO's
nomidi
I bet Gilbert Arenas isn't taking his time now, he better get to it or Antawn Jamison is going to have to toss up 30 FGA a game just to keep the Wizards semi-competitive.
CitizenJ
uh oh. I hear "Tear" and think "Season ending". Esspecially with so few weeks left. I'm going to try and trade him but with 10 missed games in a row I dont find it likely that he will go for much.
nicktimmons
Im in first and the guy in second, my only real threat to the championship, has both yao and caron....ouch, championship

I think the idea is to see how the injury responds to continued rest and light conditioning.

If he's still not right by then, i would presume that he'll get the surgery, and then the 8-12 week clock would start ticking.

Even if he comes back in 6 weeks, you're looking at getting him in the Championship round of the fantasy playoffs. He may as well call it a season at that point.
MikeDee
I have had Blatche 3 times in the last 3 weeks, and every time I pick him up he totally sucks and I drop him. What's the deal with this guy?

I have been in second place all year, and I just pulled off a huge trade that involved my other SF Carmelo. I may be screwed -- all I have to run at SF is Outlaw.

Who would you rather own: Blatche or Outlaw?
Jubanton
I really like Blatche. Has a ton of upside for Rebs, Blks, Stls.... is that what you need in your league? If so Blatche is your man, esp. if something was to ever happen to Haywood. In Yahoo he also has SF/PF/C eligibility

At this point this is all we can really hope for sad.gif
Taipan
As crappy as the Wiz record is they still have a chance to make the playoffs in the east ... so I'm optimistic that Caron will do everything in his power to come back before/during fantasy playoffs. I can live with him resting for another three weeks if it means he'll be healthy to play at least 30 mins during our fantasy playoffs.
LionsPride
I'm hoping the "not looking over your shoulder" aspect of Blatche's game kicks in. Meaning, he'll be in more of a comfort level on the floor for the next couple weeks. Not worrying about when/if Butler gets back. Getting his BLKS out of a SF is huge.

More comfortable on the floor? Sounds like something the media would say on a slow news day.

I could just as easily say his production will drop because now he wont feel any pressure to perform well.

Both are rubbish...he's a pro, I'm sure he tries his hardest every day despite Butler's status.
