looking at the cast it's hit or miss, mostly miss. the director's the same guy who did the mummy movies (the mummy, mummy returns). he also did the scoropion king and van helsing. not looking forward to it, although joseph gordon levitt as cobra commander would at least be interesting.
Americans love things that are already popular. The focus groups that provide psychographic research to the mainstream film studios reveals that the majority of Americans would rather see a modern version of something they are already familiar with instead of trying something new. Add that to the fact that nostalgia sells big time, and you can see why the studios keep cranking out these remakes.
I'm not trying to defend the backwards studio system, only trying to explain why this pattern continues.
