The American squad for the Beijing Olympics has been announced. The team is a U-23 club with a couple exceptions, in this case Brian McBride, Brad Guzan and Michael Parkhurst.

Even though it's a young group, there's plenty of experience, especially on the international level. The problem is, the weak showings in the friendlies played a few weeks back has to raise some concern about how far they'll go.

At this point, you have to think that simply earning a medal would be a major accomplishment.

Goalkeepers

Guzan, Brad - Chivas USA (MLS)
Seitz, Chris - Real Salt Lake (MLS)

Defenders

Ianni, Patrick - Houston Dynamo (MLS)
Orozco, Michael - San Luis (Mexico)
Parkhurst, Michael - New England Revolution (MLS)
Sturgis, Nathan - Real Salt Lake (MLS)
Wynne, Marvell - Toronto FC (MLS)

Midfielders

Adu, Freddy - SL Benfica (Portugal)
Bradley, Michael - SC Heerenveen (Holland)
Edu, Maurice - Toronto FC (MLS)
Feilhaber, Benny - Derby County (England)
Holden, Stuart - Houston Dynamo (MLS)
Kljestan, Sacha - Chivas USA (MLS)
Szetela, Danny - Brescia Calcio (Italy)

Forwards

Altidore, Jozy - Villarreal (Spain)
Davies, Charlie - Hammarby IF (Sweden)
McBride, Brian - Out of Contract
Rogers, Robbie - Columbus Crew (MLS)

Alternates

Cervi, Dominic - Out of Contract
Hejduk, Frankie - Columbus Crew (MLS)
McCarty, Dax - FC Dallas (MLS)
Findley, Robbie - Real Salt Lake (MLS)

Thanks, Steve....I'll have to check that out.

FYI to all......the Americans' next match is Sunday, vs. group B favorite The Netherlands.

Almost had them beat, but late free kick goal (right under the wall) forced a tie. Still a tie against Nigeria and they're in. Have to do it without Adu and Bradley though.

I just saw the highlights (missed the match), Adu's card was tough, but I can see why it was given.

Good to see the Nats finding the back of the net, they're going to need that against the Nigerians.

Watching Austrailia-Argentina now......the Roos (led by Reading's own Adam Federici!) are keeping it tight, but Messi and Riquelme came close once, and the dam is gonna break sometime.

The American men were eliminated today by the Nigerians, 2-1.

They forced to play almost the entire match with 10 men after defender Michael Orozco was red carded for an elbow three minutes into the match.

Scoring:

NIGERA: Promise Isaac (39'), Victor Obinna (80')
USA: Sacha Klejstan (88') - penalty kick
